rootinest tootinest computinest cowboy in the wild west. retro tech enjoyer

@[email protected] They seemingly changed the landing page since my original post, it showed the full list of games. Thank you for letting people know!

@agowa338 A lot of people in regions other than mine have complained about the same thing today. It seems like they also changed the landing page multiple times since I posted this. Doesn’t exactly inspire confidence

@[email protected] No problemo 😁 yeah there’s a reason I’ve been hoarding digital entertainment for so long. I don’t trust any of these companies and what they may have planned for the future

@[email protected] Worth it for that game alone! I’m not really interested in any of the other games, but who’s to say what kinds of games would be censored next? Overly violent? Critical of the current economic or political system? It’s important to draw a line somewhere

@[email protected] I wish you luck on your search. I had a composite-only CRT found on the side of the road for several years before lucking into this one. It can be done!

@DanielMReck Yeah! The entirety of Mario 3 lives rent free in my head, especially this 16 bit version. World 4 is definitely one of my favorite environments. This was the first game I booted up on the Trinitron when I picked it up, I was not prepared for how gorgeous it would look in component video in 240p!

@[email protected] Thanks. It still doesn’t hold a candle to how it looks in person, it’s absolutely breathtaking

@[email protected] Thanks, yeah I will definitely try to improve on this in the future. Appreciate the encouragement!

@[email protected] Truly brings about a sense of wonder and awe that can’t really be replicated with modern tech. Luckily they can still be found in local thrifting, marketplace, Craigslist etc if you are persistent!

@nazokiyoubinbou I couldn’t allow myself to believe it was real until I saw it with my own eyes. Legendary pickup, sketchy circumstances aside 🤭

@[email protected] Almost my exact reaction upon learning this information!

@[email protected] I currently split time between a Windows 10 machine for Steam/GOG/other games that require a decent GPU and an old second hand Windows XP machine for 16bit/32bit only favorites like my childhood CD ROMs and such.
Definitely in need of a quality 98 machine, that’s next on the horizon. Found one in the dumpster behind my old apartment some years back, but it’s not in the best of shape

@[email protected] I’ve also got a 17" Compaq but it’s always had an intermittent color flickering issue, making it pretty unreliable for frequent use. Relied on a couple different smaller ones for several years so this has been an awesome upgrade to say the least!
Haha, yes I am a Mizzou guy through and through, but I am willing to put aside our differences and nerd out about some cool retro tech

@[email protected] The only use I have for old textbooks these days, lol

@[email protected] Yesss, truly. It makes me sad to imagine how many are rotting away in landfills now. Gotta do what I can to save the CRTs in my sphere of influence

@[email protected] Will have to start hitting those neck exercises twice as hard now

@[email protected] Lifting weights at the gym prepared me for this moment!
I can’t tell ya how many old computers and monitors I wish I’d never gotten rid of in the past. It takes some effort to find stuff like this nowadays, but it’s still totally possible.
@[email protected] It seems like a bizarre design choice. I guess that generation was the first time handheld systems had internal clocks, so there must have been some growing pains involved. Still, a cynical part of my brain almost wonders if that was a bit of planned obsolescence.
The PSP was ahead of its time in a lot of ways, but you’re right about the frustrating limitations around the portability. It’s too bad Sony didn’t get enough runway to find a healthy balance before it was too late
@[email protected] Sounds good to me, I need to make more time for fan translated games in general. GBA is one of those systems that influenced my sensibilities a lot growing up, always fun to discover new things I didn’t know about it
