New CRT monitor pickup! 19" Gateway 2000 EV900, manufacture date September 1997. Maxes out at 1600x1200 screen resolution. Has a pretty decent picture quality and geometry, no apparent defects after looking it over a bit.
This is far and away bigger and better than anything else I previously owned. Got it for a decent price compared to other local offerings. Looking forward to some retro gaming on this thing over the weekend!

@[email protected] that’s a beautiful CRT, I‘m jealous because my 17” Compaq CRT is a step down from that. But as a Jayhawk, the first thing I noticed in the picture was the MU cups. 😡😂
@[email protected] I’ve also got a 17" Compaq but it’s always had an intermittent color flickering issue, making it pretty unreliable for frequent use. Relied on a couple different smaller ones for several years so this has been an awesome upgrade to say the least!
Haha, yes I am a Mizzou guy through and through, but I am willing to put aside our differences and nerd out about some cool retro tech
@[email protected] What kind of PC do you have driving that monitor? Mine is driving a P4 and a NVidia 6800 GT running Windows 98 on mine, XP would be more era appropriate but I only have 512MB of RAM and Win9x is more nostalgic for me anyway.
@[email protected] I currently split time between a Windows 10 machine for Steam/GOG/other games that require a decent GPU and an old second hand Windows XP machine for 16bit/32bit only favorites like my childhood CD ROMs and such.
Definitely in need of a quality 98 machine, that’s next on the horizon. Found one in the dumpster behind my old apartment some years back, but it’s not in the best of shape
@[email protected] Nice! I bet it weighs as much as a small car.
My old job used to have high end (like $1000+ in 20 years ago money) 19 inch viewsonic CRT monitors for the photographers and artists, while everyone else had garbage-tier first generation “flat screen” LCD monitors. At some point those CRTs were all recycled. I wish i had snatched one…
@[email protected] Lifting weights at the gym prepared me for this moment!
I can’t tell ya how many old computers and monitors I wish I’d never gotten rid of in the past. It takes some effort to find stuff like this nowadays, but it’s still totally possible.
@[email protected] and there it is, in all its glory, sitting on top of Principles of Human Anatomy. Happy gaming, man!
@[email protected] The only use I have for old textbooks these days, lol
@[email protected] Nice! Back in the late 90’s I had the EV700. It was a great monitor.
@[email protected] Gotta upgrade your head every now and then.
@[email protected] Will have to start hitting those neck exercises twice as hard now
@[email protected] I remember the beautiful NEC monitors of the time, the pinnacles of 256 color VGA graphics.
@[email protected] Yesss, truly. It makes me sad to imagine how many are rotting away in landfills now. Gotta do what I can to save the CRTs in my sphere of influence
