Seems like these should typically be used by store apps, but who knows when other apps have like 37,876 trusted partners they share data with.

8·2 days agoThis doesn’t dismiss the moral issues with it, though.
Genuine question, what are those?
I recognize issues with large power imbalance, such as huge gap in maturity, roles (e.g.: student/teacher, worker/boss), intelligence (severe mental disability on one side), etc. where one party could easily coerce the other into something, possibly even unintentionally (e.g.: one party wants something and is already upset, the other party is worried about not only breaking up, but also getting fired and not being able to afford rent, thus pushing through).
But in this case, if the above doesn’t apply, what are the other problems?

Android@lemmy.world•So, Google can just randomly uninstall apps from my device? What will happen after developer verification comes into effect?English
20·3 days agoNo. But I’ve never had it uninstall an app. Let alone one I had for months from F-Droid.

141·3 days agoSome can be pretty limited in what they allow you.
For example, I tried Moto G54 5G, and it kept giving me full-screen update notifications, which would immediately re-appear when I exit it and closed it from recent apps.
Naturally, I tried to disable Moto updates, at least temporarily.
Hmm, shouldn’t that be me?
I returned the phone for a refund.

10·4 days agoAlso, browsers still send so much unique data that they can be reasonably well fingerprinted. I don’t really know all the things, but you can combine info such as OS, browser version, window size, list of extensions, HTTP request headers, timezone, etc…
Plus you could also track behavior.
And even with VPN some analysis might be able to figure out what you’re looking at based on traffic patterns.
That assumes I won’t keep pausing the show to think.

9·7 days agoI’d want to get a finger trackball, but they’re kind of expensive. Something like Kensington Orbit.

Recently I got a mouse. One with side scroll wheel, but just a normal one. I am honestly disappointed. First 2 days I found myself being less accurate with it than TrackPoint. And it also feels less comfortable to use.
It’s only better if I have a second monitor to the side. Also, I wish I could somehow get easily varying sensitivity. Say, the more I press, the slower it moves. Or even just such 2 speed selector. Maybe it would get hard to predict with that pressure idea.

Lemmy.World Announcements@lemmy.world•Call for donations for Lemmy.World
4·8 days agoI recommend writing a log of donations. Then you can look at where you donated, when and how much, and remind yourself of where you want to send money again.
Now, I am pretty lazy. So it’s just my_donations.txt, open with Vim and whip out that calculator. Should probably be a spreadsheet instead. I don’t know if Calc let’s me do math based on key (place of donation).
I guess I could have separate columns per key (to maintain log nature), then do subtotal per key to specific cells, then grand total from those cells.
Still begs the question of how I would do that per year.
Sperate columns each year?
Just make range selection at the end of year?
To be honest, I never actually used any spreadsheet software. I suppose there might be some logic, if so, there sure would be a way to check the date column on same row as amount. But anyway, Vim + calculator. 👍

Technology@lemmy.world•‘I want to cancel’: YouTube Premium quietly hikes its US prices for the first time in three years, forcing many users to consider the unthinkableEnglish
1·8 days agoAlso to note are regional pricing differences. Let’s for example compare US and Ukraine pricing:
Plan United States of America Ukraine (converted to USD) Ukraine (UAH) Student $8.99 ~$1.36 ₴59 Individual $15.99 ~$2.28 ₴99 Family $26.99 ~$3.43 ₴149 Though I don’t know how much that would seem over there.
But anyway, I pay $1.99 for DNS (NextDNS), so $2.28 for streaming high quality video without ads? Sure, would seem fine.I wonder how much cost difference there is on the Google side between the regions.

The only reliably persistent thing which keeps running in background is Termux.
I don’t know how, but it just doesn’t die in background. I also use it for downloads with wget. I can lock the phone, and it will keep working until its done. Any browser just has a high chance of dying.
