She’s had all day to recover now and is happily snoozing with her pups all cuddled up underneath her.

She got constantly told how good she was and how well she was doing throughout everything, with plenty of fuss to keep her calm, and plenty more fuss when she’s doing such a good job caring for them.

  • I wasn’t actually aware of Lidocaine being used as an antiarrythmic until I looked it up, but yeah I can see how an IV infusion would fuck you up quick fast and in a hurry.

As for the air, I was always told the lungs can process about a TOTAL of a shot glasses worth in multiple smaller bubbles moving throughout the body before it causes issues (primarily from a diving context where air embolism is but one concern). Interesting to hear that the actual lethal dose is still considerably more than that, guess that visual guide for people is more the point at which it causes pathological symptoms rather than significant risk of death

  • It takes a little bit longer at first, but not really. Make sure the blade is sharp and replace it if not, keep tension on the skin, and let the weight of the razor do most of the work without putting extra pressure on. I’ve let others try mine (with a new blade for hygiene) and they’ve managed just find without slicing their face up.

I recommend a more traditional shaving soap over squirty foam, but that’s a lot more personal preference. I’d also strongly advise a good after shave moisturiser to reduce razor burn, a lot of cartridge style include a thin strip of it (which actually make shaving more difficult as it’s slippy), obviously a safety razor doesn’t have space for one so a little bit of manual cream application is advised, plus it smells nice.

If in doubt though, there’s dozens of articles and videos on it.

  • Most welcome, and really enjoying this thread for recommendations myself. Others I’ve been to in person in the last 12 months now I’ve had to think about it:

    • Origin coffee, Cornwall - fantastic roastery café, very friendly staff.
    • Buxton coffee roasters, Peak District - generally seem to be darker roasts but have some interesting ideas. Sadly doesn’t have a café
    • Foundation coffee, Manchester - used to have a lot more in store than is currently online, not sure what’s going on. Two very nice cafés though
    • ManCoCo, Manchester - white lie, didn’t go myself in person, but friend I was with did to get me a surprise gift as we were <5 mins away. Was a tasty coffee but can’t comment further.

Places I personally avoid from experience:

    • Chatsworth house restaurant blend - had this in a Christmas hamper for the past few years, goes straight in the bin as it is undrinkably dark for my taste
    • Pippas London - a front for a huge white label coffee distribution warehouse. Coffee was nice enough, but prefer to support small batch roasters.

Personally I really enjoy the whole going to the roastery and seeing what they have, trying a few things out etc, so I’m heavily biased towards what’s available to me locally. I’ve got The Nocturn to try when I next run out of Kickback, but as I’ve never tried any I can’t pass any judgement.
