It’s all a joke at this point lol.
“So what new evil schemes are big tech up to? Ah, installing LLMs on people’s devices? Wonderful!”

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•What do you think realistically would happen the moment we meet extraterrestrials?
4·5 days agoI don’t think it would be in the advantage of a smart civ to willfully contact another smart civ till it is confirmed that the “to be contacted” civ has a really good understanding of game theory.
You cannot negotiate mutually assured destruction with a civ that does not understand what mutually assured destruction means.
Do I think we would be destroyed if some other alien civ finds us? No. If civ A observes civ B destroying civ C, everyone would want to destroy civ B immediately. The possibility of there being peaceful contact for civ B goes away.
Also, contacting us must be in the benefit of the civ that contacts us (assuming they are rational).

Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•Working on my politics-free lemmy experience, what words should I add next?
253·5 days agoI sympathize with OP tbh. While babies being murdered is bad, I want SOME TIME in my life where I don’t have to think about that for the sake of my own survival.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What is a big internal debate within a fandom or hobby you are a part of that outsiders probably wouldn't care about?
11·5 days agoYea, fuck the corpos. The fandom is perfectly good the way it is. I’d prefer more interest (and suiting) for therians tbh. The realistic side of fursuits that is. SUITS THAT DON’T LOOK UNCANNY.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's a song where you like a remix or cover better than the original?

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•UFOs are moths, and we are a porch light left on all night.
2·5 days agoIt’s always the same story, poor sanitation, environmental degradation, corruption and climate.
Naah I don’t buy it. Individual cities and countries collapse, but not anything larger. Also, poor sanitation throughout history was mostly because of a lack of understanding of germ theory.
Nawww, I was thinking more of a secret nihilistic text or something. Something that just makes an entire civ kill themselves or something. Or maybe some equation that spells eternal doom or something that leaves everyone absolutely hopeless.
I’ll try going through the summaries of the books you recommended! Thanks :)

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•UFOs are moths, and we are a porch light left on all night.
4·5 days agoThat’s such a cool setting for SciFi! Discovery of an alien civ by studying UFOs. Astonishment at discovering multiple civs. Finding out the reason why these civs don’t exist anymore. Protecting ourselves against this threat.
I wish I had time to explore this :(
Is this a leaked scene from Dune 3?
I don’t understand. Someone explain the joke to me please
While teaching is an underpaid profession, and good teachers deserve A LOT of respect for what they do, it has to be said that many many horrible people become teachers.
I’ve had my fair share of these people. Would throw them off a cliff if I could lol
softer
HAH. I once read smut where a monster gave a blowjob to a dude and then ATE HIM. Like swallowed and digested him. The text explained the events in great detail. Also, the dude being eaten was into it (the being eaten part).
As tr0xy said, don’t underestimate text lmao
Reminder to commentators here. Anarchy ≠ no organisation.
Wikipedia is organised. Does not mean that it has monopoly over violence. The fediverse itself is kinda anarchist.
State ≠ organization. State = organization that has monopoly over violence.

Canada@lemmy.ca•Senator says growing list of vacancies signals 'the end of an era' for independence
34·12 days agoIn theory, yes. In practice, they’re just a waste of money and time. Effectively, it’s just the PM who appoints them. Hence, what ends up happening is that it gets packed with liberal and conservative donors who act as nothing but rubber stamps for Parliament’s bills.
Here’s the NDP’s stance on this for example.
Something that cute has no business being so fkin dangerous
Cute. And then there are those ugly little rat sized “dogs” that bark and charge at anything that fkin moves. I’ve no idea how folks even find them REMOTELY cute. It’s like having a pet land pirhana.
The bigger dogs tend to be the goodest boys. The rats though? I hope the bigger dogs eat them.

210·12 days agoYeah, why pay salaries of job positions that add nothing of value to public policy? Leave em vacant for all I care
