  • I have an 8bitdo zero 2 that I’ve had for a few years.

I kept it on my key chain for a long time. It would be in my pocket for 8 hour workdays in which I worked outside and got wet. It still works despite having been through all that.

I used to stick my phone to a magnetic mount in my car sometimes and used the controller to play emulated games. Nowadays I use a retro handheld or a steam deck.

I recommend 8bitdo very highly in general. Most of their controller feel really solid and completely nail the retro aesthetic they are copying.

The zero 2 isn’t like that though. It feels cheap and light, but it has held up well.

  • Sometimes I make a save just before some part of a game that I think is really fun. When I go back to play the game instead of like starting a new game or loading my save that is the furthest way through I just run through the part I really like.

There are a ton of games I consider my favorites that I have never played all the way through. I don’t really care that much about completing a game and I generally think the beginning is more fun than the later stages of many games.

Speaking of Project Zomboid I often, but not always, play that game with the infection turned off or set to bites only at least because I don’t want my run to end just because I made a tiny mistake or something really janky happens with the user interface that gets me scratched. I also play Project Zomboid with a game controller which isn’t how the game was originally designed but luckily someone on the team decided it was worth coding and I love them for it.

Sometimes I play Rust on a private server by myself with no other players just messing around and doing the PvE content.

  • It’s really easy to try out most linux distributions by running them live from a USB drive. You’ll need to be able to tell your computer to boot from the drive by entering your BIOS setup.

Once you’ve done that you’ve probably done the most technical thing you’ll have to do to try linux. If you have a separate SSD to install linux on you’ll have a pretty easy time actually installing linux. If not you’ll have to learn to partition your drive which can feel a little scary.

I think if you are playing a lot of different games it’s likely you will find some that won’t run on linux so you’ll likely still need to run some form of windows for some games. I’d hope to see that change in the future but I’m not holding my breath. I personally still do most of my gaming on windows because some of my favorite games don’t run on linux but it really depends on your preferences.

  • Rage, disappointment, fear. Also for now the strange feeling that despite everything my life isn’t any different than it has been for the most part. I do feel some hope as I have been going to protests and watching the numbers of people there rise every day.
The scariest thing about everything is just how absurdly powerful the US military is, and knowing that they have chain of command which has Donald Trump at the top. My instinct keeps telling me I should flee, but to where? Canada? I could see a possible future where that would make sense, but I also see a possible future where Canada becomes just as bad.

The secret service would kill you if it was Trump. I don’t think it’s a worthwhile trade, the old guy’s going to die soon anyways. His life is not worth more than yours.

Plus violence is what they want so they can really start telling the military to do things.

I agree with the sentiment though. I think they both deserve to be executed.

Trump should have been executed for treason in 2021.

I have been keeping up with my dishes lately more than I ever have in my life. It came about in kind of a weird way for me. My dishwasher broke and I suddenly had to hand wash all my dishes. I knew it was going to be a major problem so I made a goal. I decided I was going to make sure I washed every dish every night before I went to bed so they would never stack up to be a nightmare. Eventually my apartment manager got around to replacing my dishwasher and now I have kept up with doing dishes every evening only it’s a lot easier with a dishwasher.

Now I run the dishwasher almost every night, unless it’s really empty then I just leave it. Every morning I unload it while my coffee is brewing.

To some people this might not seem like a big deal, and to others it might seem impossible to keep up this routine. To me it has been a big improvement to my quality of life. If I feel like cooking something I always have a kitchen that is in a state that will allow me to do that and it always feels so good.
