Yeah, I grew up with cats, my mom grew up growing and repotting aloe vera. Only my last cat decided she actually likes to nom them. Figured out that they were toxic when I went on holiday and brought my cat over to them. She came back with a swollen mouth and chin. Aloe has been banished, every single plant got googled and cat-approved (or thrown out/banished to outside).

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What exactly is the process of traveling by plane from US (where I am) to Japan for a few weeks?
2·2 years agoNot OP, not from the US and never been in Japan but I travel a lot in general: always assume local currency, at the very least it’s going to be cheaper and quite probably only very touristy places or airport only might accept $$. Here you can pre-order cash at your local bank and return any excess notes after. Exchange booths are usually a rip-off, and withdrawal abroad might cost extra, check with your bank.
Also don’t assume people speak English. They might, but treat that as a bonus.

World News@lemmy.ml•‘It’s the same daily misery’: Germany’s terrible trains are no joke for a nation built on efficiency
2·2 years agoAs a general tip: you usually have to apply for assistance beforehand. Doesn’t mean it isn’t shitty though, and if your train is delayed then and you miss a connection…
Only had ublock active, still happens. For now it still goes away on refresh or if I switch adblockers (so I’m assuming cleaning out the cache daily will work too).

Maybe for short times, but I’ve heard about dogs getting paralyzed at the groomers’ from being put in a harness for too long. Veins get pinched. And that’s with a harness meant for dogs, not something improvised like this.

21·2 years agoNo, that’s another source of income.
Massive, won’t melt, won’t catch fire. Ceramic tiles would work just as well imho, though a tad lighter (which might actually be good, given the thickness of that shelf)

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•The most remembered lesson from elementary school may very well be "Don't run with scissors!"
16·2 years agoNot in the curriculum, though a sister of a classmate actually fell while running with scissors. Permanently blind in one eye, and a lozenge as pupil. Indeed not something you forget easily.

2·2 years agoThey’re absolutely amazing. And pretty common nowadays. If a store has baking tuns and a baked-goods section, they probably have silicon baking sheets. Just make sure you get the thin, non-stretchy kind.

World News@lemmy.world•A sex education program causes controversy in Belgium. Schools are burning, the country is worriedEnglish
101·2 years agoOh we definitely have racism. It’s just less “black lives matter” and more “only my skin colour matters”. And yeah, this definitely extends to the police too. But given they’re very, very scrutinised every time they dare pull their gun in public, at least we don’t have the “police raids wrong unit and shoots owner” happenings.
What is happening is still far from OK, any instance of racism is one too many, but the problems here are a bit more nuanced than what is in general shared on a public, overly-Americanized forum.
And in case you are American/Canadian/Australian, can I please point back to whatever is still happening to your native population? Not a single country is free from blame from what they did to other or their own nations. Call me butthurt, but I’m getting quite a bit tired of getting called out on the Congo on every single thread mentioning Belgium while that was mostly, originally one man’s doing. Again, nuance, I know more stuff happened afterwards, but it’s not relevant to this thread.
