Pixel 8 stock, haven’t gotten around to Graphene OS yet and a little worried it won’t work with my bank/credit card apps. I think I can revert to stock if things don’t work for me so I might try soon.

I’m in a similar boat re ham radio. It seems like a cool hobby, I’m into the idea of building and running radios. Even better if you add backpacking, DX-ing, “fox hunting” or other ham radio games. But the culture is a little off for my taste. People are generally polite and friendly enough on short contacts but you can hear some bad takes if you chat long enough. It would be cool to see younger, diverse, more left leaning new hams, it would get me more interested in going on air.

I’ve had a good experience with TrueNAS scale on bare metal and proxmox in a VM. I don’t have a lot of heavy weight stuff on proxmox though, mainly LXC containers and a few VMs. I also have a VM in TrueNAS for jellyfin that I pass a GPU into. It’s been running that way for several years without issue.

I sympathize with wanting to feel comfortable and connected with a partner. I hope you can find an arrangement that makes you happy.

I also totally know the feeling of finding little passages or pieces of art or media that I really emotionally resonate with and struggling to communicate what they mean to me. I’m not surprised, things like that are so strongly influenced by your own context, but I still find it disappointing.

I spent a lot of time playing Banjo Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts alone and online with friends. A lot of people I’ve talked to view it negatively and are surprised when I say it was one of my favorite 360 titles. It’s one of the main reasons I want to try out Xbox 360 emulation.

Oh ya makes sense. Anything in a rack form factor would be much too loud to live with. I think in that case you’ve made great choices in hardware!

Pretty much everything else virtualization. I have a few small LXC containers running Ad Guard and Unifi Controller, and VMs for a gitlab instance, gitlab runner, and some game servers. I could host all that in TrueNAS directly but I like proxmox’s UI.

My setup is TrueNAS SCALE on bare metal with VMs for Proxmox and Jellyfin. I pass an Arc A380 to Jellyfin for transcoding and it works great. I also leverage LXC contains a lot for small services. I keep everything behind a VPN. It’s pretty easy to distribute Wireguard configs and import them on most OSes, but It’s been a mixed bag getting family members to use it though.

I’m a fan of having dedicated network hardware and VLANs on one router. I generally go for Mikrotik. I used to run pfsense on a VM and when the server when down so did everything else, which caused the house to erupt into chaos.

Also if you’re considering new hardware already I really recommend looking into surplus enterprise gear. I run my whole lab on an R730XD. It holds a ton of drives, has an IDRAC (I can’t live without it now), ECC for extra peace of mind during ZFS scrubs, and they hold an insane amount of inexpensive RAM. They’re fairly cheap on eBay or from refurbishment companies. Bring your own drives with warranties though, used drives are a headache. Servers like this can be really noisy though, I keep mine in the basement.

I’ll also suggest a second drive to mirror your boot drive. You can and should back up your configs but a mirror saves headache and down time if the boot ssd fails. Probably even more important if you’re planning on using this pool for VM storage.

She so cute! We have a tripod that’s missing a back leg, she also can’t jump as well as her brothers but she makes up for it with her completely jacked upper body. I’ve seen her scale a window drape like she’s in Assassin’s Creed.

I really suggest talking to a therapist. I’m in a similar stage of life going through similar relationship things. Just in the past few months of seeing my therapist I feel way less underwater and helpless. I’m making plans and I see the whole situation in a different, clearer way. It might sound obvious but being able to think clearly is crucial to making smart decisions and getting yourself out of tough situations like this.

I have bazzite running on an HP EliteDesk 705 G5 mini PC with a 3400G in it that I got used from eBay for pretty cheap, a little over $100. It handles 1440p 120Hz, it’s max output resolution at 120Hz, and 4k 60Hz just fine with steam remote play from my desktop on LAN. It also does up to GameCube emulation really well if you’re into that kind of thing. I’d really only consider upgrading from this if I wanted 4K 120Hz in the future, or if HDR becomes worth it, but the 1440p 120Hz experience is great.
