World News@lemmy.world•Canada cannot cozy up to China: "Exposure to a regime that jails dissidents, manipulates international institutions and spies on Canadian citizens is not diversification. It’s submission" - [Opinion]English
244·10 days agoThis entire article is horseshit and is championing trade with the US over China while every single one of its claims against China can equally be applied to the US, and it ignores the very real and very present threats of force and fascism that is the current US.
Last I checked China hasn’t threatened to invade Canada. China’s trade policy with Canada has been fairly tit-for-tat and China only retaliates economically when Canada gives in to pressure from the US with punitive trade measures towards China.
Better to trade fairly with China despite their problems than the US which demonstrates complete disregard for their allies, their current trade deals, and the rule of law, not to mention their extremely regressive policies on the environment and social freedoms.
China isn’t perfect but no country is and Canada cannot solely trade with democracies in the Europe if it wants to have a viable working economy.

News@lemmy.world•Doug Ford says he’ll pause anti-tariff ad that infuriated Trump as of next week, but will still show it during World Series
9·16 days agoI am so sick of everyone kowtowing to Trump’s incessant bitch ass demands and petulant whining. Can we just say fuck off to the goddamn fascists and be done with it already?
That always bugs me too

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What technologies were ubiquitous ten years ago and are much less common now?
43·23 days agoMaybe 1/100 people I see using headphones have wired headphones, certainly wasn’t the case 10 years ago. Bluetooth technology and quality has come a long way.

Canada@lemmy.ca•How a woods ban to fight wildfires turned some Canadians into toddlers
1310·3 months agoAnd calling everyone who has a different opinion on how society should be governed is a “toddler” apparently.
It’s funny because fires have been started by people during the ban… so what has the ban accomplished in terms of actually preventing fires?
People who are the problem and starting fires will ignore the ban while responsible people who want to enjoy nature or walk home through the park are the ones punished.
And why are they trying to politicize this so hard and make this a left/right issue? It’s absolutely not.
Banning fires? Of course. Banning smoking and motor vehicles on trails and in woods? Absolutely. But walking through a park deserves a $25,000 fine? That is life ruining to some people and for what? For HIKING?? It’s crazy to me how widespread the support is for this and how much people are jumping on the government bandwagon. And to disagree with fining hikers you are an evil conservative fascist now? Give me a fucking break.
Yes, its dry as shit out there but to punish people who don’t drive, smoke, or have fires doesn’t make sense in my opinion and the mob mentality about this is so weird.
So someone can drive their car (the number one contributor to climate change) through the forest while ashing a cigarette out their window, corporations get to pollute and destroy the entirety of all ecosystems but a person walking through a park or by a lake is the real problem and must be punished…

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What was the worst apartment you've ever lived in?
9·4 months agoThe day I moved in there were broken beer bottles, cigarette butts, and syringes all over the floor.
The bathroom didn’t have a door and you could see into the shower from the window on the front door. There was no shower head when I moved in.
Water sometimes just didn’t work.
One day one of the lights on the ceiling started smoking, then filled up with water from a leak from the ceiling.
The rent was great though…

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why do people especially men care if someone forgives a cheating partner
6·4 months agoYeah, can’t believe all his friends don’t want him to get back with a cheating drug addict.
People are capable of change, sure, but after showing a pattern of behaviour where you show getting off with someone other than your partner is more important to you than the respect you have for your partner and maintaining that relationship, why should anyone involved trust or care about what you have to say on the matter?
And from all your responses here, it seems like you are really trying to justify cheating and are giving excuses to treating your partner like shit.
Take some responsibility, own your mistakes, and try to be a better person, not get angry at people for what YOU did to YOUR partner.

Americans should be rioting already. There seems to be no end to the corruption and madness of their sham Supreme Court and fascist government. What will it take?
