@slimerancher it has a demo too.

@slimerancher, oh, and if you would like to learn bullet hells better and don’t mind some slightly disturbing imagery, Angel at Dusk is a great and accessible game. It has an outstanding tutorial to interactively teach you not just the mechanics, but also how exactly to pull off the required (sub)genre moves.

@slimerancher @Phelpssan, a few more non-danmaku STGs that I’d suggest:
vert (T = tate support):
• Anger Force (T)
• Astebreed
• SophStar (T)
• Dragon Blaze (T)
• Gunbird 2 (T)
• Sisters Royale (T)
• Moon Dancer (T)
• Missile Dancer (T)
• Dimension Drive – weird
• Shoot1Up – weird
hori:
• Sine Mora
• Blazing Star
• Black Bird – weird
• Rigid Force Redux
• R-Type Dimensions
• ProtoCorgi – weird
• Aqua Kitty UDX
• Andro Dunos 2
• Thunder Force IV
@[email protected] , ha, I know that game as Blackthorne on DOS. Interesting that it was renamed in certain territories.

@dinckelman, I should brave up and finish that game. I love that bug and the wonderful weird world he’s in, but, boy, it can be hard.
@bbbhltz , some sweet choices. Glad to hear you’re enjoying yourself 😸
I just grabbed Andro Dunos 2 digitally as well. It was just too good of a deal.
@bbbhltz so, what did you get in the end and what are your thoughts so far?
@bbbhltz , it is my favourite CAVE game so far.
That said, personally I am not willing to pay that much for a STG (sorry). But I know others would and do pay even more for a PCB of it.
It is a very quality game and has several modes. If that is worth it for you, it’s up to you.
Several other Cave games (and Crimzon Clover, which is not by Cave, but like a spiritual successor) have similar modes, so perhaps try one of those first.
@bbbhltz, on the vertical side…
Oldskool:
• Batsugun
• Dragon Blaze ❤️
• Gunbird 2
• Anger Force – kinda
• Missile Dancer
• Moon Dancer – ❤️
• SophStar – ❤️
Danmaku:
• Crimzon Clover
• Caladrius Blaze
• Espgaluda II
• Mushihimesama – ❤️
• Danmaku Unlimited 3 – bullet grazing ❤️
with a twist:
• Pawarumi – rock-paper-scissors mechanic ❤️
• Dimension Drive – teleport
• Sisters Royale – ❤️
• Eschatos – ❤️
• Shoot 1UP – multi-ship
• Cosmo Gang the Video – Galaga-like
• (Downwell)
@bbbhltz, depending on what you’re craving.
Here’s a list of horizontal ones…
Defender-like:
• Aqua Kitty UDX – cute, fun
• Black Bird – dark-cute
R-Type-like:
• R-Type Dimensions EX (and the others)
• Rigid Force Redux – ❤️
Classics:
• Blazing Star
• Thunder Force IV
• Cotton Fantasy
Other hori:
• Azure Reflections – Touhou fan game
• Sine Mora – time-mechanic ❤️ , not for everyone though
• Astebreed – switches orientation flawlessly ❤️
• ProtoCorgi – cute, hard
• Rolling Gunner – ❤️

@picandocodigo, check out other Zelda videos by TerminalMontage for where it came from.

@Entropy, @MetricIsRight, awesome, thank you both.
I still have a set of spares, but once I’m through those, I’ll get the hall effect ones.
My current gripe is to get the right rail to fit tighter so the right joycon does not lose connection. I’m thinking of adding some teflon. (One of the screws’ heads is too worn out to disassemble fully)

@Entropy, do they also feel good? I heard conflicting reports on that part. @slimerancher

@JonDorfman, right, but Hall effect analogue sticks themselves have existed for a long time, so that technology in general (except any novel addition) is (most likely) not patented anymore.

@JonDorfman, I did a quick online search for Nintendo’s JoyCon patents, and interestingly found a US one from 2023 (2020 in Japan) about what looks Hall effect analogue sticks:
https://patents.google.com/patent/US20230280850A1/

@JonDorfman I wonder how they would do that while also not violating patents on JoyCons that I suppose Nintendo has.
I have not checked, but would be surprised if they do not.
@anyhow2503 , as an old Linux and KDE user, I totally agree with you. But a custom minimal UI optimised for the specific use case and hardware (and optimised kernel) will likely consume less RAM still.
