Totally agree. I’m getting really sick of the GNOME, Wayland, hate. Especially when the loudest people have contributed next to nothing to improving the Linux desktop.

Pray tell, whenever there’s a new release of the kernel, what do these forks do? Point being nobody has hard forked the kernel and seen any success, its just not possible to keep up. There is still undoubtedly a hard dependency on the kernel by lots of software, just as lots of operating systems and software rely on systemd. In a world where these things were closed source, dependence is dangerous, but because they’re open source and so heavily depended on by the open source community, more people using it makes it better in much the same way it does for Linux.

We should start preparing to jump ship from Linux. There’s just too much reliance on it and that’s ALWAYS bad.

Systemd is open source. If it goes closed source, nobody would use it anymore and switch to a fork.

This makes no sense. GnomeOS is the operating system Gnome uses to test their software: https://os.gnome.org/. What is wrong with this? What the hell is “the right to customize your terminal”? And how does this imply that gnome is corporate at all?? They are making 0 dollars off of users by doing this. There’s a tiny chance they just want to make something different. You don’t have to like it or use it, but its pretty obvious you don’t even understand it and haven’t made any attempt to.

I think the joke is that typically they put an attractive person to say how hot it is, but instead they just put the food where it said “the food:” Maybe I’m under-thinking this one…

I’m gonna make a slightly different take that isn’t centered around work. Productivity in general is a really good trait that should be encouraged. I am a much more fulfilled and happy person having been productive throughout my day like working on personal projects, going on a run, reading a book, cleaning my apartment, etc. IMO there is a lot of wasted time in social media, bingeing shows, etc. that doesnt really fulfill me. Not saying these things are bad, just that if I’m not productive I fill my time with things which really don’t matter. There are a lot of really awesome things out there that epitomize the phrase “labor of love”.

Obviously, have some self respect and don’t destroy yourself for the sake of productivity especially when its for someone else.

What was the hardest time you went through as a single dad and how did you overcome it?

Omg the amount of times I’ve clicked on a Medium article in the last month and immediately knew it was AI is so frustrating!!! They aren’t even helpful articles because you can tell there is no real understanding.

I think the key difference is that I grew up in the North. I can’t speak on what everyone did but my conservative friends and any conservative relatives of my friend group were acceptable if not very generous with their tip. In any case, I know this is how politics goes but generalizing your ideological opposition as the scum of the earth isn’t terribly productive or insightful. However, the people you grew up around sound pretty bad and your criticisms of them are much more justified.

Do you go out much? Most people treat their servers well regardless of political affiliation. My home town is majority conservative and are all very respectful when eating out.
