Technology@lemmy.world•Google will block sideloading of unverified Android apps starting next yearEnglish
2·2 months agoWell android phones dont have removable sd card slots anymore, the only way to transfer files is over the weird protocol that’s slower than directly writing to disk, if you use pixel or Samsung youre already inundated with annoying ads. The ecosystem is pretty awful now. Installing a custom rom is a good idea, but depending youre phone model it could be a step down and if your on any Samsung phone with knox it basically irreparably damages some attestation fuse. Apple ain’t much better. I might try a Linux phone next.

184·2 months agoUi/ux is honestly worse on android compared to something like ios. The playstore is honestly stuffed with ads and seems to be actively regressing in ux (the update apps menu is hidden behind like 3 layers of dialogues). Cost wise a used iPhone is probably a better deal than a cheap new android phone.
I used android primarily because I could install apps Apple basically doesn’t care about (and after the 5th time gba4ios broke).

You Should Know@lemmy.world•YSK this is Susie Willies. She is the most powerful woman in the United States.
9·3 months agoFriendly reminder the guy who organised lenins calendar was bloody stalin. That’s a level of discretionary control over a highly powerful individual that could basically let you choose the next president.

Technology@lemmy.world•Microsoft admits it would have to let Trump spy on EU data if demandedEnglish
12·3 months agoI thought gdpr forced companies to store data securely in the eu. Are they saying they’ll transfer that data to the us to give Trump access, cause that’s a gdpr violation and should result in fines and eventual removal from the eu market.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Why do people switch from chrome to Brave browser and not to Firefox?
21·4 months agoThe royal mail tracking website for example brings up an obnoxious full page block on top of the actual content. Only happens on Firefox on android. Chrome worked fine.

Edit: also, just for reference, I’m amazed anyone actually needs examples of this. Its very well known that different browsers have different supported functionalities and unless the webdevs are properly customising styles and scripts for different platforms their gonna deviate. Thusly its not surprising most stuff only works as designed on Chrome since that’s the only Web browser that’s guaranteed to be tested on (it has the lions size of market share, to the point Firefox barely even registers).
Kinda odd youre only allowed to be born into it. Not that i really wanna.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Why do people switch from chrome to Brave browser and not to Firefox?
51·4 months agoA good chunk of websites are just broken with Firefox and their not even broken in obvious ways. Some times they fail to load, sometimes they render weirdly, sometimes their just unresponsive. I use Firefox as my main browser but I always have something chromium based as my backup for when a website I wanna use just doesn’t work. A lot of the time I don’t even think to use it and assume the site would be broken on chromium as well but nope. Its almost always Firefox:/.

1·5 months agoKaiji part 3 is kinda impossible to do without part 4, not that I’m complaining. Both are phenomenal. Although weirdly part 5 is my favourite.

1·5 months agoMan. I would love an air gear reboot. The art style and comedy alone. Its also so weirdly unique relative to all the other shows.

The touch is redundant. But I get why you did it anyways.
