News@lemmy.world•Houthis reportedly sink British ship in Red Sea
121·2 years agoHave you not paid attention to their situation in the last decade at all? They’ve been bombed, starved to a famine and everything else that could be thought up with the help of Saudi Arabia and the US. If you think people have been “playing nice” with them so far you’re incredibly far off.

World News@lemmy.world•Panama's Supreme Court declares 20-year contract for Canadian copper mine unconstitutionalEnglish
3·2 years agoI missed this because I was too busy dancing to the news of Kissinger’s death, but amazing news! Big W for Panama and the protesters especially!
Suddenly my skin is clear, my crops are watered, the sun is shining, the grass is green, and my grades are up :D
This realization somehow amazes and depresses me at the same time

107·2 years agoYou can’t point out hypocrisy without “whataboutism”. You could say it was an ad hominem, but not whataboutism, when the point is to show someone is a hypocrite.

8·2 years ago50 over the course of all the days of ceasefire to ensure nobody breaks the ceasefire. Israel will do the same with their 150 civilians. If you release all at once, there might be an incentive to break the ceasefire earlier.
Oh you might be right about that. I didn’t read too carefully after I saw that babies were snatched. If they weren’t taken from any parents/caregivers it would matter a lot more how they were treated afterwards, but I still think the practice, even when it leads to better outcomes, is morally repugnant because it opens a very dangerous door to ever sign off on what essentially functions as human trafficking. Although it does make me slightly more relieved that at least they weren’t taken from their parents. Glad you caught that!
No matter how well or unwell intentioned, stealing babies from their parents to give to someone else has always been one of the most revolting crimes out there for me. Absolutely vile regardless of how the baby snatchers intend to treat the kid.

World News@lemmy.world•Biden admin officials see proof their strategy is working in hostage dealEnglish
41·2 years agoDid you see the viral videos of the former state deparment guy who served under five presidents up until and including Obama? He went apeshit on some random middle eastern street food vendor calling him all sorts names, saying 4000 Palestinian dead kids wasn’t enough, and claiming that he’d send his picture to Egyptian authorities so they could “take care of” his family with a big smile on his face.
No idea why he let the mask drop in public now, but there is no way that his extreme convictions weren’t known to his colleagues all these years. I’m actually starting to understand why both the democrats and the republicans seem so oddly in tune with each other on this subject. That guy wasn’t a one-off lunatic, he was just the only one dumb enough to get himself filmed and put on the internet. Every time we get more information from what is being said behind the scenes it really shows.

World News@lemmy.world•White House declassifies intel suggesting Wagner Group is preparing to provide air defense capability to Hezbollah or IranEnglish
6·2 years agoAnother two Lebanese journalists were just killed by IDF in south lebanon. One of which was killed just an hour after having tweeted that israel has been intimidating journalists and that they couldn’t stay quiet. I hope they’ll get air support there because it is absolutely ridiculous at this point how many they’ve killed. I don’t know why Iran would need it, even from Russia’s pov. I haven’t heard of them being directly involved yet.

6·2 years agoThey also assassinated their journalist Shireen Abu Akleh last year so idk what type of ceasefire it is when only one side gets to murder the others (but they didn’t drop any bombs so it’s ok).

4·2 years agoFor some reason I would have thought they already had it? But whatever you know how the old saying goes, better late than never.

What the fuck does any of that have to do with what I said? You seemed to be under the impression that the Houthis or Yemen in general weren’t already despised and under attack by both their closest neighbor and the most powerful military in the world. I corrected your misunderstanding. Don’t put (moronic) words in my mouth because you failed to do the absolute minimum research before commenting on something (again).
