Also the US is at about 40% carbon free energy production (renewables + nuclear), which is pretty swag.

- Beware of your target and what’s beyond it: Paper targets will never stop a bullet. You best have a backstop that will, especially if you live somewhere flat.
- Keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready and about to fire. Even when you’re reloading and have the muzzle pointed down range. Not until the moment you need to fire.
- Alcohol is for after your day at the range and when everything is put away, absolutely NOT before or during. Operating a firearm under the influence of drugs/alcohol is probably the only thing more dangerous than operating a motor vehicle on a highway under the influence

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•You're the president of a democracy and your army just deposed a dictator with a war. What's your plan to rebuild that country, and what's your exit strategy?
1·2 years ago- Put the former dictator and their government officials to a fair war tribunal/trial for whatever war crimes/human rights violations they preformed. Have the jury/etc composed of people of the occupied country. Televise, live stream it, etc as much as possible to make sure it’s transparent to the people so they know it’s being fairly run and so that all former supporters of the original regime see all the atrocities they committed
- Provide economic/humanitarian aide to help rebuild country, create jobs/economy for people
- Begin rebuilding government as democracy, use occasional voting referendums on specifics of new constitution (on bill of rights, parliamentary vs representative democracy, etc) to allow people some participation and act as dry runs for electing political officials. Maybe throw some ranked choice voting in there for fun
- Run elections for political offices, for the first few elections ensure that the former dictator’s supporters and regime is disqualified so they do not retake power
- After elections are successful and government seems stabilized, begin de-occupying and giving the country it’s independence

Technology@lemmy.world•Once Again, Dirty Energy is not in the Public InterestEnglish
9·3 years agoSeems like solar would be a really good solution in NM. Lots of land to build on, plenty of sun, and the population is spread out so large power plants like nuclear/coal would be less practical in that setting
I actually have one of these on the emergency kit my brother gave me for a car, he put it together in a like military style bag to keep in my trunk and it has a patch on it like that. It’s just a monochromatic version of the American flag, anyone I’ve known who has something like that doesn’t intend anything past that. Like others referenced, modern fatigues and gear in the US Military feature a similar monochromatic flag to that (usually black and the primary color of the uniform, like desert tan or olive drab) to save cost and make it blend in with the uniform better, so I think that popularized that to some degree in culture.

Technology@lemmy.world•The first hydrogen-powered planes are taking flightEnglish
8·3 years agoI understand the advantages of hydrogen since burning it doesn’t produce greenhouse gasses, but being around that much hydrogen makes me uneasy from everything I’ve read about how explody it is. I am sure the engineers responsible know what they’re doing though

3·3 years agoAny caliber reasonable for self defense will overpenetrate through all walls of your home at lethal velocities. .380, 9mm, .45, 5.56, 12 ga buckshot, if you miss your target it will overpenetrate. Drywall has about as much bullet resistance as paper. The only way to prevent any over penetration is firing hollow point ammunition at your target and not missing.

Ukraine@sopuli.xyz•The Miami police handed over 101 units of confiscated firearms to UkraineEnglish
61·3 years agoDepends, looks like the rifles here are AK and AR style, so they probably take 7.62mm (which I imagine is pretty common in Eastern Europe) and 5.56/.223 (which the US military is probably supplying them by the bucket), respectively. That said, the hand guns are probably a mix of .22, 9mm, and .45 among other random less common calibers

Anti-vaxxers not vaccinating their kids be like
“If only there was an innocent dog in range of me!”

Just because something is made for teenagers or younger doesn’t mean they have to be bad though. I would say the original three Star Wars are a good example of that, sure they were fun for kids, but they didn’t need dumbed down or made insincere for children to be able to enjoy them. Look at the golden age of Pixar movies which, sure, are children movies, but are also just movies that hold up for adults too.
