I put the cat tree next to my front door so my kitty could affection attack my head and shoulders instead of tripping me when I got home from work.

Games@lemmy.world•Sliced off the tip of my thumb, what are some good one handed games?English
16·21 hours agoJust about anything that is turn based. Board games ports, Roguelike games like Balatro, Slay the Spire, 9 Kings. Civilization games and Civ-likes. You can even play ttrpg ports like Baldur’s Gate and Divinity but it might be a little annoying without an RPG mouse. I played a lot of Civ when my left arm was paralyzed then weirdly Wii tennis after surgery.

25·3 days agoCan we please for the love of God have a judge actually enforce their order for once? He has shown over and over that he’s just going to do what he wants. The rest of us would have to sleep on a jail bench for a few days then still be forced to comply.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•People who prepared costumes for Halloween: how much money/effort did you put in it?
2·6 days agoMy partner and I spent $250 and dozens of hours making alice and mad hatter costumes but they have lasted us 3 years so far, halloween, tea party, comiccon
If you are in a social situation with conversations going on its really easy to get away with this kind of shit. Espicially if the others are inebriated.
I was the designated driver with my friends and 2 of them had the same phone. Without them noticing I swapped their phones, cases, and passwords. They didn’t notice until they sobered up the next morning. It was hilarious.

Most databases don’t require a license, nearly infinitely scalable, robust, can handle mass edits and multi edits and can be interacted with by humans and variety of programs easily. SQL is a language commonly used to interact with relational databases.
Excel is limited to how much data can be stored in it, it has auto format features that will change what you type into something different (like auto interpreting things that look like dates) and each cell can either be data or equation. It can also be tricky to add lots of data at once, licenses are not free and multi people editing it at the same time can be tricky.
The limit on how much data can be stored in a db is typically orders of magnitude higher, you typically specify beforehand what type of thing is in each column (string, date, number, etc) cells can only hold data not equations they are built for adding lots of data en masse safely and can handle lots of “simultaneous” editors.
Geneitc scientistist have had to change they way they name genes to avoid auto formatting into dates in Excel. UK government attempted to track early COVID cases with Excel but the data was getting capped by the max size of Excel. NZ gov lost track of lots of money in their budget because of lack of being able to multi edit.
A relational database is a bit like a rigid excel workbook. You have multiple tables that are made if rows and columns. A column is an attribute (like population or height) and a row is a data entry (like town). Some of these columns can store keys to rows in other tables to be used as a reference. In our example case a table of townships might link to another table of counties or states or countries.
A non relational database is more like a collection of personal notes about things to allow for more flexibility.
I highly recommend starting with Grist or TablePlus both of which have nice GUI, free tier and can get your head around databases.
As an American in NZ I did not expect any trick or treaters this year as we didn’t have any last year. But we got a few dozen Indian kids.

Thanks! I discovered you don’t need to build a transformer to be openai compatible. This operates more as a slot machine so I didn’t waste energy training a model to be a duck and its more lightweight. There’s 70ish possible responses with varying rarities and just a simple rule not to repeat the same one twice. If you use the website or API there is a slight chance your “data” will be captured by your ISP or HF, but it’s open source and super lightweight so you can run it locally. If you are super security minded you might notice there are 3 things obfuscated in the source code. They are just fun Easter eggs obfuscated like a spoiler tag, but it’s just base64 so you can easily audit to verify my claim that it’s humor not vulnerability.
