I actually just learned at work the other day that everyone who is a first responder as part of their job and therefore may be exposed to blood borne pathogens is required by OSHA to be offered a full Hepatitis B vaccination paid for entirely by the employer.

These officers claiming they don’t want to risk Hep B either declined a free vaccination and therefore created that risk for themselves or they’re fully vaccinated and just making excuses to not do their job

See the one thing to remember is that places can be majority one party, but if consistently 60% of voter vote for one party that still means that 40% of the voters vote differently. There’s tons of moderates and Republicans in very blue areas and there’s tons of moderates and Democrats in red areas. Some of these retirees might be moderates or hold different opinions from where they live. They may even simply be folks who aren’t plugged into politics and don’t really know or care that much what their neighbors’ political opinions are.

I’m overgeneralizing here, but retirees don’t work (especially not highly physical jobs that badly require workers rights reform. They might do some independent contracting for the last place they worked as a side gig though!) they don’t go to school, they don’t have much debt with their home, vehicles and student loans all paid off long ago, they don’t rent, they aren’t first time home buyers, they aren’t raising a family and struggling with the cost of daycare. Retirees are basically just trust fund babies except they spent the last 40 years building their own trust fund. And as people are living longer healthier lives, we’re getting retirees who have been retired for 20+ years and are even further disconnected from the needs of those who are still working and raising families

My point is, depending on the person, politics probably isn’t a big deal to them when they select a low cost of living area to retire to. And in the south there’s tons of 55+ communities and communities intended for retirees that are conveniently built just outside of metro areas to reduce tax burden (because taxes are generally the biggest cost for retirees!)

Many of the games in Roblox manage to basically recreate many “real” games except within Roblox where kids don’t have to beg their parents for another new game. That’s the big thing for kids, tons of replayability with a single purchase so they don’t have to rely on their parents spending more money

Oh hey I just wrote a comment about those damn five paragraph essays!

Holy shit I forgot about the struggle of either getting 3 good arguments or choosing only 3 arguments. Also the way they insisted we state the arguments 3 times, once I the introduction, once in that arguments section and once in the conclusion was clunky as hell and they did not like me trying to make it more elegant and have the writing flow better. You also reminded me of those fill in the blank worksheets that were just…holy shit.

I remember in school they at some point decided that literally every class must require students write a 5 paragraph essay every quarter. And those 5 paragraphs must be:

• Introduction
• Argument 1
• Argument 2
• Argument 3
• Conclusion

Absolutely no other line breaks were permitted regardless of existing grammatical/stylistic rules you may be breaking in the process and you must have exactly 5 paragraphs with exactly those contents, no more, no less.

Since literally every writing assignment was now a 5 paragraph essay, including both big English assignments where they wanted a couple thousand words, and the simple little one day assignments where they just wanted half a page, they all had to be exactly 5 paragraphs. I honestly entirely forgot how to properly paragraph my writing. It was fun, in the way that it was infinitely frustrating. Now whenever I see a 5 paragraph essay format I get emu war flashbacks to school and cringe so hard
