Technology@lemmy.world•Ifixit gives fairphone 5 a 10/10 on repairability and maintanenceEnglish
2·2 years agoSeems like an honest recommendation to me. You fit the apple use case pretty well, so if it works for you, great. I’d argue a stock pixel using stock android would be comparable in terms of not needing to mess with stuff since its a very curated experience, since google then controls the hardware and software, like apple.
The trade off is you’re giving google (or apple) 100% access and control to everything you do on your phone.
With a fairphone or any other android with (e, grapheneOS, calyxOS, lineage, etc) you WILL need to change some settings, maybe play around with it a bit to get it working how you want, but you are the one in control. Its really not that difficult to develop the small amount of technological knowledge needed given the amount of help available online and I’d say its a necessary life skill these days just like learning to use a computer became a necessary life skill.

Buy it for Life@slrpnk.net•Looking for Winter gear (Commute via Bike, Mild Winters)English
1·2 years agoSorry for the late reply. Used can be a great option if you find stuff in good shape. Ya, for your use where you’re finding it sweaty doing an activity like biking or hiking where you will generate heat, I cant recommend the 2.5 layer/3 layer fabrics enough from whatever proper sailing or outdoor company you like. There’s always a trade off in moisture resistance vs breathability and when you are generating heat you need to be further towards the breathability side of the scale which is where these fabrics shine. Will they last as long as a heavy non-breathable jacket with 100%PVC bonded to 400g nylon? No. But as you’ve discovered having a jacket that lasts a long time doesn’t do you much good if you end up soaked from sweating in it all the time.
Prusaslicer has some pretty good stl manipulation tools built-in these days. You can merge, split, add common shapes, subtract shapes, etc.
From the outside looking in, it seems like you should be able to do everything you want right in the slicer.
I’ve found this to be preferable for working with existing stl’s (not as useful for editing) if you dont have the actual step files or 3mf files available.

Linux Gaming@lemmy.world•how do you choose between two lauchers? steam amd gog through heroic?English
2·2 years agoNot OP but look for games that say remote play together on Steam. As long as you own the game you can invite your steam friends to play with you and they join your host game without needing to purchase. An example I’m familiar with that works good is human fall flat.
Edit: start the game, open friends menu, open chat with friend, invite to play together or whatever it says on the banner
Ya I don’t doubt people have troubles with it since you need winetricks and such. Hopefully they see that github page eventually and get it working.
Fusion360 can run on linux using WINE, HERE is a GitHub repo showing how to set it up.
Or the web version works on linux too ofc
That being said I use and recommend onshape if you aren’t planning on doing this for a company professionally that already uses F360

Meta (slrpnk.net)@slrpnk.net•SLRPNK declines Lemmy Community BoostEnglish
6·2 years agoGood call. I agree especially with the locally flavoured ALL tab being a feature.
For those that don’t know you can also use other tools to discover new content besides the ALL tab if you want more variety. There’s https://lemmyverse.net where you can search for instances and communities Lemmy-wide.
There’s also a Lemmy search built-in to SearXNG on the “social media” tab (not sure if non-NG has it implemented). You can use !commands or just change your engine settings to only search lemmy on the social media tab.

Meta (slrpnk.net)@slrpnk.net•Petition to Defederate Monero.TownEnglish
31·2 years agoLittle late to the party but I don’t think defederation should be taken so lightly and applied on the basis of “this instance isn’t aligned with solarpunk”. MOST instances aren’t aligned with solarpunk and thats fine IMO. If a user from that instance posted something off topic in the anarchist sub then just ban that person?
IF it becomes a major problem where they are crashing subs and stuff like that then sure lets assess defederating but the whole walled garden thing is not what I came to Lemmy for.
If you don’t like crypto, dont follow those subs, if someone posts crypto offtopic on slrpnk then report it and move on.

1·2 years agoThanks for the suggestion. Just tested by adding G92 E0 right after the PRINT_START and PURGE_LINE macros and it still has the same error at the same spot; right as it goes around the circle part of the elbow on the second layer.

Buy it for Life@slrpnk.net•Looking for Winter gear (Commute via Bike, Mild Winters)English
0·2 years agoLayers are the way to go. You can use the same rain jacket year round as your shell.
For the jacket get a good (NOT just DWR) rain jacket (I use a Helly Hansen 2.5 jacket). Helly Hansen, Outdoor Research, Patagonia, etc are all good options. Sailing companies typically make good stuff, pay attention to the millimeter waterproof rating. The 2.5 layer fabric is a nice blend of breathability, packability, and waterproofness imo since I don’t want to be sweating inside the jacket. If you happen to work as a first responder, outdoor professional, military, etc most of these high end outdoor gear companies have a “pro” program you can register for and receive 50% off your purchases.
Underneath that, as it gets colder layer whatever you already own for an insulation layer (polyfill puffer, wool sweater, stanfields, etc), I would avoid down fill in this case just in case you do ever soak through your jacket since it will lose its insulation capacity when wet.
For shoes I don’t really have a good recommendation since I just use waterproof socks and wear whatever shoes I feel like.

2·2 years agoHmm good thinking, that would make sense that could impact it… maybe I’ll try reducing that although I am on the low end for that setting compared to the recommended values. Pressure advance is 0.0425 and was determined using the method described in the klipper docs

1·2 years agoIf you use prusa/superslicer I could share my profile tomorrow when I get back home. Started out with the ellis klipper superslicer one and then ported it over to pruasa and have been making a few tweaks here and there.

Just throwing out ideas for how you could affect change if you so choose.
Seems to me you are in a position to provide an anonymous tip with images of the dumpster with compacted plastic in it to support the claim to an eco-friendly news outlet to name and shame them and put pressure on management to change.
Keep in mind precautions necessary to remain anonymous when providing any tip if you don’t want to be roped in on it. Maybe someone knows a resource for whistleblowers on safe disclosure?
