Honestly, for me, limiting my phone use is harder than it was to quit smoking. One main part is of course that for many things you need your phone, so its often on your person. I do try living more without it, but it can still suck me in.

News@lemmy.world•Palantir posted a manifesto that reads like the ramblings of a comic book villainEnglish
2·29 days agoyeah it’s great we can have this conversation, one of the things I love about Lemmy. There is room for listening, discussing and trying to understand each other.
Do you think that people like Alex Karp believe themselves? I mean, does het just follow the billionaire script, and thinks he does good (while doing a lot of harm). Or that this is intentionally masking the bad motivations of himself and allies?

News@lemmy.world•Palantir posted a manifesto that reads like the ramblings of a comic book villainEnglish
2·1 month agoFair enough, I’m myself am from the netherlands (where polarisation and rise of the far right does happen, but we still have some semblance of normalcy and social welfare and cohesion), so my context is a bit different. That’s maybe why I saw the merit of discussing some of these points.
But you are right, this coming from an AI surveillance company CEO and all the other weird shit happening in the US, and more places in the world, does warrant a heavy dose of skepticism and alertness.
I just was taken aback what people were reading here (like eugenics), what I totally couldn’t glean from the original tweet.

15·1 month agoI’m definitely not pro eugenics (or pro Palantir and billionaires), but that was not what I read in there. Taken on itself it had some merit to engange in discussion. I don’t agree with a lot of the points, of the tweet but there are, in my opinion, some are pretty valid. “The ruthless exposure of the private lives of public figures drives far too much talent away from government service.” for instance.

Climate@slrpnk.net•The Amazon is approaching a critical tipping point, where deforestation, degradation, fire, and climate change together risk pushing large areas toward irreversible ecological collapse.English4·1 month agoI believe for rainforests in Indonesia it is palmoil that causes most deforestation, in the Amazon cattle and their feed (mostly soy). Regardless, two big drivers of deforestation that need to be haltes.

6·3 months agotrue, but they first build out coal to power their country. As this article is showing, India is skipping past the coal part mostly, and electrifying via solar faster than China did. But yes, they do use the Chinese solar products they developed.

Thanks for the source, interesting read. Makes me question sanction more. Haha, well here on Lemmy you can have a conversation when asking clarification, so thank you as well :)
Where do you base the number of half a million deaths due to US-EU sanctions on? Because I know the EU uses sanctions, but not (at least explicitly) with the intention of causing wide scale hunger.

4·4 months agoI agree, but the bad thing is, a lot of people (especially kids) are addicted to TikTok and other apps. They crave it. So similar to smoking, they know it’s bad but still can’t quit.

Well its just the new information, I deleted Reddit ages ago, but I still compulsively watch Lemmy and my mail, messenger apps. (Though a lot less than when I had Reddit up). It’s a weird compulsion. I’ve blocked many attention sucking websites, but still. But gotta say, I’m resisting more and more.
