@brucethemoose i do want a new notebook. Ideally with popos, but not necessarily
I just expressed my experience with PopOS.

@brucethemoose hi
Thanks. I once installed various distros on Huawei notebook and it was not a very good experience. The hardware was exceptionally great. I know how to create a USB installer, etc.
I would want it mainly for normal stuff like surfing the net or creating some presentations and showing them. Nothing in particular, for example, nothing AI related. I do not want to daily open the terminal and add some cryptic commands. sudo apt update & sudo apt upgrade
From the UI perspective, I really like PopOS. I have a strong focus on privacy and the canonical telemetry I can disable. I would want my data to be encrypted, but I don’t want to read about luks etc. It should just work.
I would want it to be very portable, sort of like a MacBook Air.
I’m coming from a Mac OS background.
@[email protected] thanks for all the work and your quick actions.
I read somewhere that Google is bypassing VPN for certain connections. The fixes described here, are they related…

@[email protected] I wish you would implement that I can see my working day from 8 or 9 to 5 or 6 or 7 in one view and without always scrolling up and down.

@[email protected] @thenextweb @[email protected] I may not be up to date but you state you are fully defoogbed but when I put a sim into my phone you make a connection to Firebaseinstallations. Others such as GOS don’t do that, so it seems to me it’s not necessary.
Do you still get push notifications via/from Google?
Does your captive portal check still bypass my VPN?
Do you still use Google service for SUPL location?
Could you switch from MicroG activated by default to MicroG activated optionally?
@brucethemoose thanks. I looked it up. I can see various notebooks called Asus Z13, gaming, ROG etc.
Price should be around 1500€, max 2000€.
Which Linux would you recommend for this machine?
What about Dell XPS ?
