Android@lemdro.id•Google is working on a big UI overhaul for Android: Here's an early lookEnglish
9·6 months agoThe quick settings menu is one of the worst parts of android 15 visually, and it desperately needed a redesign. We’re getting resizable quick actions, so now we can fit 16 settings on one page instead of 8. You can now turn Bluetooth and WiFi on/off with just one tap again. Adding settings to quick settings is easier.
More intuitive settings menu. Boring single color white/black backgrounds are now blurred wallpaper. There’s a new option for displaying notifications. There’s notification bar icons that are less weird, and more compact battery percentage. Sliders are a little clearer now (rounded colors was a terrible idea). We can now customize icon shapes.
Can someone explain why everyone is shitting on this? I get that people here don’t like change for the sake of change, but most of these are positive, or at least neutral changes, and this fixes some gripes I’ve had with android.

7·2 years agoIt’s probably more expensive and inconvenient.
Also it might only take one report for an active mod team to ban a server. How long can that take? An hour? Less? If they’re on servers that real people use, bots have to be banned one by one, so the spam can last a lot longer and reach more people.

65·2 years agoyou can’t move that account somewhere else.
That means you can migrate between servers and keep all your friends and followers, something that’s currently not possible in the Fediverse.
It absolutely is possible to move accounts between instances on the fediverse. I’ve done it multiple times.
It does have some quirks tho. Posts aren’t migrated to your new account. (Some fedi software lets you migrate posts, but from what I hear it’s kinda jank).
It’s not seamless, but the option is there, and you won’t lose any friends or followers (unless they’re defederated or something)
Bluesky accounts seem like they’ll be more portable than fediverse accounts but I don’t know much about it
It’s a crawler that ports things from one platform to another without consent from the user. If either of them are unethical and should be blocked, then both should be blocked.
I understand blocking this bridge, but if admins do that, they should block other bridges too, like bird.makeup

2·2 years agoThere are ads on the app store, which I’d consider to be part of the “primary operating system”, especially since it’s the only way to install apps.
Not to mention constant ads for icloud. In the photos app, and even notifications from the settings app. (It’s possible to turn these off, but not easy or intuitive).
After switching to Android, I haven’t seen a single ad in the operating system, (I think Play Store does have ads, I just haven’t got any for some reason). The closest thing is Google photos sometimes asking me to turn on backup.
It’s acting up, so the feed doesn’t work, but if you go to the profile of someone you already subscribed to you can kinda see their posts? It’s weird

Greentext@sh.itjust.works•Anon notices what they've taken from us
3·2 years agoNot actually how it works. There’s two options. One of them has the notifications in the “dead space”, but the content never gets eaten up.

(Pinging @[email protected] , just in case you didn’t know about this!)
I wouldn’t use this myself. Most apps are designed so content fits underneath the camera hole so nothing gets eaten, and even if it does get eaten, the camera is so small that it’s not an issue for me
Edit: this is what you have to enable, by the way.

1·2 years agoSee what? Posts from threads? Depends on your instance and how you browse.
Lemmy has no microblogging features so you won’t be seeing any (unless they’re specifically posting to Lemmy)
Kbin I’m not too sure since there are microblogging features but idk how they work.
Mastodon; you will see posts from threads users if you follow them, or if someone you follow boosts a post from them.
If you browse by the explore/posts tab, you might see some threads posts. Also from the ‘All’/federated tab.
You’ll be able to block threads for your account, or choose an instance that’s defederated.

Is it a pixel 6a? There’s something wrong with their batteries so they updated them so they don’t get set on fire. They’re giving a free battery replacement, and I heard you might also be able to get cash out of it. https://support.google.com/pixelphone/answer/16340779
