  • I appreciate this post!

I’ve never been to a meeting, but I’ve always heard the only way through AA is with God. And as a lifelong atheist, I don’t think that would work for me. I’d just be lying to get them to shut up lol (which would not be doing myself the real service I would need at that point).

I’m surprised there isn’t a more secular AA program. I can see the appeal of AA meetings without the 12 steps piece.

What’s the point of accepting a higher power? Is it so that we can just put the blame on them? Or accept our place in this grand equation? I think we can already do the latter without a god.

I’d love to read more if you do end up making a separate post!

  • I was banned for speaking up against a proposed bill that reeked pro-life ulterior motives. I won’t mislead, my language is very harsh and crass when it comes to speaking to pro-life people on abortion, but I’ve been speaking like that on the site for 15 years.

Maybe I just “got lucky” in all that time and never got caught, or maybe it’s like you said and they’re trying to shift the site more conservative.

Good riddance, honestly it’s been a masochistic hole for me for probably the last 5-10 years.

I have higher hopes for this place, it reminds me of the early days of reddit before it exploded in popularity sometime in 2016 (and with that, the quality of posts and average age of the user plummeted).

  • Despite being a childish choice, any new restaurant I go to I order the chicken tenders. It’s pretty hard to mess those up (and they’re usually on the cheaper end).

I like to “get a review” from my wife and friends on their meals, and then I’ll decide if I want to branch out to the full menu if there’s a return visit.
