  • No one did anything to deserve a growing up safely, being healthy, inheriting money, having white skin or even growing up in a certain nation. No one starts from zero, and it’s just an obvious lie if you say otherwise. We as a society, should work on making these differences less relevant, when it comes to success and life satisfaction, wheather that’s through public education, social benefits or reducing racism and prejudice.

  • I agree. Privilege definitely exist, but it’s kind of a burned word. If you call someone privileged, you’ve made sure, that the person gets defensive and will not think about in any way.

I think it’s more accurate to speak of resources. Everyone has some of them, but other people don’t. Inherited money, having good relationships to your parents, having a stable upbringing, living in a good neighborhood and not being homeless, being perceived as competent, being physically or mentally healthy, are all valuable resources and everyone should try to see what resources they benefit from, where others can’t. Sadly prejudice and racism/sexism/… exists, so your skin color is also a resource, making it easier to be perceived as trustworthy/competent/… which is a huge benefit.

  • I really appreciate this perspective (it’s something I hadn’t considered before) Standing up for equal rights doesn’t mean we need to glorify or unconditionally defend a group, no matter who they are. For example, opposing police racism doesn’t require me to justify the actions of every Black criminal or attribute every single crime solely to systemic factors. (Though, of course, they often play a significant role.)

People are people. We all have the best and worst human traits somewhere inside of us, and we deserve human rights not despite of that, but because of that.

  • Thank you for your super detailed response. That’s a lot of information 😅 Talking about codecs is only applicable to torrenting, right? (I’ve never seen a streaming site talk about the codecs they use).

I don’t really mind paying a bit (and hopefully supporting the creation of new media), but it’s unbelievable that Disney+ butchers a lot of the most memorable Pixar scenes, with terrible compression. (When a lot of snow, confetti or other particles are on screen).

PS: I live in the EU, so I’m not signing away my right to live by subscribing to a streaming service. WTF is going on on the other side of the atlantic. I can’t even believe what a capitalist nightmare some call the United States of America.
