It can be taken out if, 1, you know it exists (is it documented?), 2, you know how to program (is it configurable through the normal instance setup or do you have to sift through the code and then maintain your own fork with it removed?). Sure seems like being able to take it out is a side effect of it being open source and was not intended to be configurable. If that’s your bar then any feature you don’t like in any fediverse platform “can be taken out.” You’re talking as if it was explicitly made to be taken out.
Also, it doesn’t just detect 4chan pictures. It MASSIVELY overblocks. This is Lemmy’s slur filter blocking “fire removedant” but on steroids. Tell me again how Pifed is the “anti authoritarian” Lemmy.

Oh please if Lemmy had that hard coded you would absolutely not be defending it. Even if it was just .ml you’d still use it to smear all of Lemmy. I hate 4chan too and would prefer not to see it, but this is still by definition a very heavy handed imposing of one’s personal opinion on others and limiting expression but somehow it doesn’t get the authoritarian label. Wonder why.

Lol y’all complain about Lemmy being authoritarian but think this is fine?

“How do you refer to an instance member in Java?”
Sorry can’t comment.

OK, edited.

Specific info, and I’m guessing really specific:
One of the closest allies of the U.S., the U.K. has reportedly suspended sharing some intelligence with the Pentagon due to concern over the boat strikes in the Caribbean, according to CNN.
[…]
In response to a request for comment from TIME, a U.K. government spokesperson said on Wednesday: “It is our longstanding policy to not comment on intelligence matters.”
They went on to say that the “U.S. is our closest ally on security and intelligence. We continue to work together to uphold global peace and security, defend freedom of navigation, and respond to emerging threats.”
Which makes me think they haven’t actually stopped sharing all that much

When returning stolen items, don’t phrase it as a “gift” in your fucking press release
It really highlights just how fucking evil the Catholic church is where they can’t even pretend to be sorry about what they did. “Hey remember when we, in collaboration with the Canadian government, completely and utterly destroyed your culture, families, and lives in a full blown fucking genocide? Well, here are some of your priceless ancient artifacts back. Not as reparation for the literal crimes against humanity we committed against you, as a gift because we’re so generous and merciful. We really felt the need to make it known that we absolutely did not think we had to do this, and you non-believing hellbound scum are lucky we did. Now thank us!”

https://zionism.wtf/ was a better “Zionist or Nazi Quote” quiz IMO but it doesn’t seem to load properly anymore.

You’d be surprised what bacteria are capable of. Sure they may not spread as easily through the air like coronaviruses but even spreading through surface contact can get out of control really fast in an urban area when millions of people touch the same surfaces every day and then touch their eyes/mouth.

This is unfortunately just the reality when we’re dealing with organisms with orders of magnitude faster reproduction and selection than us. Maybe the proposed bacteriophage treatments will be better since those can evolve too, but we’ll probably still have to constantly engineer them otherwise we’ll get periods when bacteriophages work and periods when it doesn’t, not to mention the extremely slim but never actually zero chance that bacteriophages will figure out how to infect eukaryotic cells from the billions of close contact with animal tissue when we actually start using them as mainstream medicine.

Or just leave your house when work time starts and leave work early to account for traveling home.

The commercial first floor and residential higher floors configuration has been used as early as Carthage. It’s literally ancient history yet our governments are shocked when it works so well.

Also, this is more of a symptom of the dumb as hell separation of commercial and residential development that Canada is just barely now overcoming (and even then we’re not upgrading neighbourhoods to mixed zoning unless the entire area is being torn down and redeveloped). You have tons of Downtown businesses that rely on the influx of commuters to operate while people working from home wanting to go to a restaurant are out of luck because their entire district bans commercial buildings of any kind.

I used to be an arachnophobe too, but I found that the best way to overcome a phobia is to learn about the thing you’re scared of.

Nearly all the Indigenous peoples don’t want it on their land period, and all of “BC” is their unceeded land.
Coastal residents don’t want it because of the risk of shipping accidents, especially the (many of which Indigenous) people that depend on fishing or other ocean resources for their livelihood.
Anyone who’s even half environmentally conscious are questioning why we’re still investing in fossil fuel infrastructure.
The temporary foreign workers hired from places like India probably aren’t thrilled about being exploited by Canada while barely any Canadians will be hired for the new jobs the pipeline “created.”
Even economists are warning that the fossil fuel economy is coming to an end and the long term ROI of this project is not guaranteed.
And the people just buying fuel to drive to work and back to their rental will never see any benefits because all of it is being exported at market price.
The government is pushing the pipeline as a “nation building” project that’s supposed to “unite” Canadians but all it will do is further divide Canadians and cement Canada as a backwards fossil fuel country that can’t move on with the times.

You know in a few decades everyone’s going to agree the current Israeli government are no better than Nazis.
I just hope in a few decades everyone still agrees that Nazis are actually the bad guys.

Pipelines have been shown time and time again to divide Canada.
Do you have links to studies? Genuinely curious. I’ve mainly heard the justification for permanent DST in Canada is that we’re far enough north that we’d benefit from extra sun in the evenings during winter.
