This is basically a hit piece that has been in many ways disproven. Linus and his team are a bunch of apes but that means they are mostly incompetent, not actually malicious.

8·5 天前What constitutes good? And what makes an iPad good? I had an iPad pro about 4 years ago and I hated it and its’ idiotic appleisms. People were paroting that iPad is the way to go back then as well and I fell for it. I switched to a Samsung Tab S7+ and couldn’t be happier. I still use it daily, it does everything I need it to do and it does it better than the iPad.

PC Gaming@lemmy.ca•Larian Studios defends Valve: Steam's success is deservedEnglish
1·7 天前My personal opinion is that better than this in a money driven capitalistic economy is not possible. The pressures to keep growing and to make more are too great and most companies will do anything to make line go up. Valve has been very steady and metered in their ways over the years compared to any other company I am aware of.
If we change the external pressures, as in change our entire economic model, then sure, better can be had, I assume for all companies everywhere not just valve.

PC Gaming@lemmy.ca•Larian Studios defends Valve: Steam's success is deservedEnglish
251·7 天前Looking at how other tech areas have all consolidated into monopolies or oligopolies, valve is the best case scenario for PC gaming.
Imagine anyone else being in control. Activision? EA? Ubisoft? The gaming industry is not immune from disgusting money hungry corporations stepping on the users to squeeze out every little penny they can. Valve has never done this and has kept others in check for the longest time. The day we lose the current version of Valve will be disastrous for the industry, I’m pretty sure.

1·15 天前I still remember the time of the great Miele shilling by the vacuum repair guy. Every thread about vacuums had the same conversation about how only this single company is the best company of all. It worked, my brother bought one of those vacuums.
It doesn’t help that I don’t particularly like most people I meet and living with or close to anyone other than my own family has been hell everywhere I went.
Its weird to me that Mould would be the one to have his name on it considering the wikipedia article itself says this effect has been known for a while now.
Because it is. Downsizing doesn’t work if your next downsize is living on the streets.

Television@piefed.social•Opinion: I Want Worse Looking TV Shows with More Episodes
8·27 天前The older I get the more I want to have quality over quantity. Older shows are so hard to watch because there is just so much filler. Half of it can be cut easily and still keep anything of importance in terms of story and character growth. I’ve always appreciated tight story telling and I’m happy to see it as a trend.
I’m assuming anyone wanting more watered down content watches shows all day every day and I honestly don’t know how they do it. Not just in the sense that you should probably have a job and other hobbies but also in the sense that it just gets so damn boring.
Having less episodes doesn’t mean that every episode needs to be expensive, but that the budget should go to making writing and direction the best it can be.
It’s the meat heads obsessed with the topic. The only reason most vegans would mention their food preference is because food is part of most peoples life’s 3 times a day. But when discovered the questioning is relentless.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's a subject you (think) you know more about than the average Lemmy user?
7·1 个月前Considering the general conversations that are posted and popular here I expect I know more about Europe in general and some countries in it in particular that the average Lemmy user.
I’ve not seen anything about 3d printing getting traction here nor snowboarding so I’ll add those two to the list.
I most probably don’t know more about Linux than the average user here.

Games@lemmy.world•AMD and Sony’s PS6 chipset aims to rethink the current graphics pipelineEnglish
20·1 个月前Forced upscaling and blurry TAA is compensating for the fact that they can’t push graphics much further on the hardware we have. The current hardware progression has stagnated, combined with the fact that we are seeing more diminishing returns in graphics as they improve, requiring more power to deliver less of a noticeable difference.
But it doesn’t mean these games won’t look great when you disable the fakeness and run it with brute force GPU power 10 years from now.
I honestly think the current graphics we can achive are fine and where the true improvements should come from are better animation and actually good art direction.
Sure, yes and true until we get to the last sentence. Anyone is absolutely not capable. There are many reasons why some people will never get to the mindset required to sustain any of these superpowers no matter what because the genes and brain wiring you end up with are more powerful than any external factors.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Should access to computers and the internet be a basic human right?
5·2 个月前10 years ago I would have said yes, absolutely, because I was young and naive. Today not so much. Although I don’t think lack of internet is the solution to containing the crazy of society since they managed to spread that without internet in the past just fine. Its just that this iteration of crazy feels like it was specifically pushed through the current internet we have.
There’s no way this can be categorized as world news.

This is basically my take on it. Windows has conditioned me to ignore any and all warnings. It would be super easy for me fall into a trap like that on Linux.
