Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Why isn't there an end-to-end encryption standard for email so that we can get rid of fax machines?
7·3 years agoIt’s kind of true. But so many places are replacing physical fax lines with VOIP or even just automatically sending the fax to email via a copier, it’s hardly more secure in my experience

3·3 years agoI pay ~$10/mo for eweka(usenet provider) and nzbfinder.ws(usenet indexer). You do not need a VPN while connecting as long as you are using TLS when downloading. It’s not really like a private tracker because it’s not even torrenting. You’re downloading direct from the usenet provider.

4·3 years agoMy god yes. The download speeds are so fast and I have never had issues with quality while using it. No more waiting 3 weeks to download a movie with 1 seeder.
If you have any questions, I can answer to the best of my ability.
Good idea - looks like you may be able to get one on ebay used for less than $200.
I went with a p2000. I use plex, but I imagine usage would be similar. I’ve had 5 people using it at the same time transcoding 4k to 1080 with no issues. Good luck!

Technology@lemmy.world•If you value privacy, ditch Chrome and switch to Firefox nowEnglish
117·3 years agoThere is a lot of misinformation and people linking articles they haven’t really read. I’m not going to address them because I don’t feel like it.
I would suggest for anyone who doesn’t like how slow and clunky Firefox is, to look into Ungoogled chromium. If you still decide to switch to Firefox, consider librewolf if you are ACTUALLY concerned about privacy and not just jumping on the bandwagon of hating Google ITT
Congrats on your first setup. I would recommend making sure you have fail2ban set up and test it. If you’re keeping anything important, get backups going… I worry for new self-hosters that may have a security issue and lose their hard work to a vulnerability.
Yes! My coworker does this and I think it’s pretty cool.
