Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Is now a bad time to make a big financial move in the US?
2·14 hours agoAs a rookie, look to mortgage rates. Are long term rates significantly lower than shorter term rates? That indicates the big heads (the people who get paid to do this) are saying the market will soften.

Winnipeg@lemmy.ca•West Broadway residents aim to take housing off the market, keep it affordable with new ownership structure
1·16 hours agoI have served on multiple non profit boards. That independent audit statement is meaningless. The auditing firm receives the numbers from the non profit, and accepts them without any verification.
I would like to know the qualifications of the people who are managing the properties. From the financials, pretty much 100% of their money is taxpayer money, so I think the public has a right to know. Wouldn’t you like to know how (or how well) the money is being spent?

1·16 hours agoIt seems weird to me. A business that is quiet, doesn’t pollute, doesn’t attract crime. It does attract traffic, but so does a golf course.

Winnipeg@lemmy.ca•West Broadway residents aim to take housing off the market, keep it affordable with new ownership structure
1·16 hours agoConsidering they are ‘a little guy’ a salary hit of close to 1/2 million is rather shocking. Also, with taxpayer money, accountability and transparency should be paramount.
Don’t misunderstand me, I am not saying the cause is not worthwhile, I just would like to see where the money is going.

1·1 day agoJust an FYI: From looking at their most recent financial statement. They received $824K in city and provincial grants and paid out $465K in salaries. Not the percentage I would expect from most charities.

Canada@lemmy.ca•PM Carney declares U.S. ties now a ‘weakness’ in address to Canadians
11·2 days agoSure Carney. Tell me again what you have done to remove interprovincial trade barriers. How are we doing on that pipeline to reduce our dependency on USA? His statemnt is purely political pandering to those Canadians who don’t understand the amount of trade between Canada and the USA.

He removed the retail carbon tax, twice. What would you add to that. Not announcements, but actions.
