the expanse wooop
It’s book two of their new series The Captives War.
How does it compare to the Expanse?
Hrmm.
Not the same at all really, tackles different topics, not really about space or space exploration.
But the writing? Enjoyable, I love they way the try describe stuff given the context of the surroundings. It’s more about society adapting to new norms, while dealing with usual human bureaucracy.

There’s a hivemind type species, they subjugate pets (anything not them is pets) into moieties to prove their usefulness. You’re gone if you’re not useful. “Humans” find themselves tossed into the middle of a universe spanning war. Their first task, doesn’t matter what you were, was to make a berry edible to a not-turtle. They are then attacked by night drinkers… and the story goes from there.

Book two just released on the 14. Now I gotta wait another 2+ years for the conclusion. It’s only a trilogy.
They’re also making a tv adaptation.
