People will attribute masculine and feminine gender to ‘master’ and ‘mistress’ respectively, but I think master would be the ‘neutral’ pick here.

Or you can shuck the dynamic with: owner, divine, ruler, royal, liege, or any number of ranks with which you attribute subservience! :3

Whoever uses that one needs to put on a British accent whenever they use it, even in the middle of sex. Sorry, it’s a requirement, I don’t make the rules.

Yeah I have to second the “master” as a gender neutral. People always think of it as masculine, but there is no feminine alternative for most uses of master. You aren’t your dogs mistress, for example.

I’ll grant that it sounds a bit archaic, but “mistress” is technically correct there.

But yes, agreed that “master” can be used in a gender-neutral way.

I’m not seeing the problem with ‘mistress’. Wiktionary cites the very first meaning as: “A woman, specifically one with great control, authority or ownership”, and provides an example sentence: “She was the mistress of the estate-mansion, and owned the horses.” You know, the same way as ‘master’ was used.

Apparently I’ve read more than my necessary share of US literature about the slavery times (considering I’ve never been to the US), because I have no trouble imagining a matron commanding the slaves.

Moreover, further down Wiktionary explicitly cites ‘dominatrix’ as another meaning of ‘mistress’.

It’s not that they are looking for a feminine version of master, it’s that they want a gender neutral version. Which master already fills. As do any number of other options the person I replied to mentioned.

Yeah, that’s sort of what I landed on. Not “master” because that also feels weird for different reasons, but “Sir”. It makes me feel like a Captain in Star Trek (though I’m not sure yet whether that’s a good thing or a bad thing)

I think steward comes across slightly more like a ‘head servant’ type rather than a title of someone you (as a sub) are giving yourself to. You could maybe have fun with some roleplay elements in that, but for me SFF books have ruined the title as one which I would ‘worship’.

That’s … not a good opener if you want to find yourself a real Domme.

You should be more respectful, at least to begin with.

I’ve found a cocky grin with a “hey” goes really far when hitting on dommes irl. But I also have fuckboi energy so it fits the vibe.

For any fellow subs reading this, you hit on dominant women like any other woman. When it comes time to flirtatiously joke around, then you can make some jokes about being submissive, but you want to have the situation felt out enough that you’re confident that she’s flirting back and that she’s receptive to such jokes. You never want to come off as a pushy sub, a lot of dommes have bad experiences with them (hell, even I, a sub, have had one)

Exactly. Though if you’re being a good little worm you shouldn’t need to make jokes about being a sub for her to know what the deal is.

Unfortunately for me, many people read extroversion and confidence as dominance, so i have to be quite clear how easy it is to bring me to my knees and that no I really don’t switch

I’m not really relevant to your interaction but I thought it was a little cute. Not tactful, but the spirit was there.

If I wanted to write a similar message like yours, I’d probably have done it like this:

Let’s say I were to call you a “bitch”. What would your purely hypothetical response be? 🥺

                That’s:

                • less direct
                • playful (“If I were to insult you” is a very fun way to tease AND pretend to be an innocent little angel)
                • probing the water to see if they’re interested

At least in my opinion. I’m terrible at flirting though so you may want to evaluate this yourself.

If they’re furry and/or therian, using their species works great! Like “good dog”, but whatever kind of animal they are.

      Or generic ‘critter’/‘creature’ — however, I can’t think of a good method of address for non-furry non-therians.

Maybe an extension of Mx, Ms, Mr: Mixtress? (I suppose the “ess” is what makes it seem feminine)

Or just “Mx. Name”, like how “Mr. Bond” can feel like a single term in the James Bond movies. (Mx. pronounced “mix” feels right here)

    Let’s see:

    • Mistress
    • Mister

The end should be changed in stead. You can do the X thing: Mistrex (or Mistrix to keep the “e” part pronounced as “ih”).

Or change it another way: Mistro, Mistrez?

I like Mistrex/Mistrix, that seems… sensible to me.

You could also do Miztrex/Miztrix, if you want to make it a bit more distinct.

Ooh, this is a cool way to come at the problem. I am surprised I didn’t think of this, as I do rather like the title “Mx” (even though I don’t use it myself — I use Ms.)
