Hi folks, just wanted to share my experience and strategy with transitioning away from US-based digital services. As you can see, the blog is on GitHub, so it’s not about perfection. Happy to chat in the comments!
My transition strategy: jurisdiction and comfort first, then decentralization, then open-to-inspection
Uhm. Why? Some nice FOSS projects are based in the US, but if they’re made by a community and don’t rely on an online service, then it is probably fine. I wouldn’t use a closed source EU service over one that’s FOSS and where we can verify what it does.
I don’t know… Spotify rips of musicians and podcasters, I wouldn’t recommend switching to it. There are probably better alternatives. I’ve heard there is a good streaming service from France, don’t know which one. I’ve always preferred local music.
And I don’t get switching to Matrix. That has, again and again, proven to be unreliable. And a communication tool needs to be reliable.
I liked the intellectual angle. Nice work!
