The Texas AG's Office filed a lawsuit against Jolt Initiative, a group that promotes civic engagement and voter registration among young Latinos in Texas.
Illegal forms? What the hell does that even mean? Are they asking them to lie on forms? Cause that’s definitely something that would get you in hot water. But he makes it sound like the entire form is illegal. Like Ron Swanson making his own permit saying he can do what he wants. Though, he literally managed the parks so I’m surprised that didn’t fly.
The claim seems to be that this group is knowingly attempting to register undocumented immigrants. Which is fucking psychotic, seems to be just blatantly based on “they’re operating in Latino communities” and moreover seems to be just ridiculous on its face? Because it sounds like you just fill out a registration form and the state board of elections determines if you’re eligible or not… so… what’s the problem exactly?

This is my biggest issue with all the “prove you’re eligible” laws. That’s supposed to be the State’s job. If they honestly can’t do their job we need to reorganize some data bases or something, not make it harder to vote.
Exactly. Like… If they submitted any improper registration forms then wouldn’t they just… get rejected by the Board of Elections for not actually being eligible to vote there? And just how exactly is a volunteer registrar supposed to figure out who can and can’t vote better than the state?
Like I mean my ass is just scrolling by here from the Librul Hellscape of Western NY so take this with a grain of salt, but any time I’ve seen volunteer groups doing voter registration drives they’ve all been… checking with the local Board of Elections and helping people file papers with said board. As far as I know none of them can just add anyone they want to the voter rolls. That’d be silly.
