I’d count emotional numbness as an undesirable side effect and switch the antidepressant.
I concurred. I switched from an SSRI to an SMS because of this and other side effects
My best friend has struggled with depression for a long time and no SSRI really worked for her. She switched to an SMS medication and it has made a huge difference for her depression.
Meanwhile I’m treated for anxiety moreso than depression, and also felt some emotional blunting on SSRI’s. I switched to an SNRI, which targets both serotonin and norepinephrine and that has gotten a lot better for me. It’s a lot easier for me to feel joy now.
TLDR: if your meds aren’t working for you, shop around and see if something else works better. Yes it takes time, but it’s better than being stuck feeling nothing.

What is an SMS?
Do you know how fucking badly I wanted SSRIs to do this to me? My emotions are so fucking intense that they give me so much pain and threaten my job.
I want to feel nothing emotionally and all science can give me are things that make me feel nothing physically. 😩
is it wrong that i know i should take anti depressants but also i dont wanna because it’s all i know and i dont know what i’ll be if i’m on them
