Milquetoast (n. “a timid or feeble person”), but otherwise, excellent writing.

I came from a semi-affluent area, where my schools had everything from kids on food stamps to kids living in McMansions. There were so many kids wearing all black, baggy parachute jeans, emo haircuts, chains and spikes everywhere, death metal band t-shirts, etc. spouting how they were from the “streets of [hometown].” Dude, you live in suburban paradise in one of the nicer towns in our state! With two parents who love you very much. You have no life struggles, no real problems. Stop trying to create a false “damaged” image of yourself for pity. We all want attention when we’re young, but that’s a super cringe way to go about it.

The friends of mine who were actually from poor, struggling families definitely didn’t flaunt their troubles at school. Most of them seemed like normal people; you’d have no idea they were struggling at home.
