I’ve been binge watching sg-1 on and off for the past couple months.

I really love this show, I don’t think there really has been a bad episode yet.

I’m near the end of season 3 and I already feel like I watch to rewatch the series.

I watched the original movie by chance a few years ago and had trouble getting into sg-1 because the characters looked and acted nothing like their movie counterparts. But, I think, in season 2 I learned that it’s actually a different Jack O’neil.

Anyway, I plan to watch everything in the proper order, so please no spoilers 🙏

Why do people think it’s a different Jack? He literally has the same back story with his son dying under the same circumstances. There is constant mention of him and Daniel dealing with Ra on Abbados. The first episode he assures the brass he sealed the gate on Abbados.

Yes, it is the same person canonically but the characters are completely different. I like the little joke with O’Neil being another guy with no sense of humor - but that is ultimately just a cheeky way the show makes fun of itself, as it often does.

I think it’s just a running joke, because in the show he mentions that there is another person with that name. So people just go with it since the character is so different.

Not the same name, show Jack has two Ls, there’s another O’Neil with just one 😉

I like the TV version of O’Neill (with two L’s) a lot more. Movie O’Neil is a bit of a “military guy stereotype”.

There’s actually a scene where O’Neill mentions the other O’Neil. So I guess it’s kinda canon in the TV version that there is in fact two Jacks, where the first one to go through the gate was Jack O’Neil and then Jack O’Neill took over.

I don’t know how this series missed my radar, I was like prime age for a show like that at the time.

I’m also a huge trek fan, so shows of this era are up there for me.
