@[email protected] I’m from a town that’s about an hour and a half north of Pittsburgh so we had to go down there for the hospital, the airport etc. but I’ve never seen that building in real life. If I ever get back to Pittsburgh I have something to look forward to, thanks!
@[email protected] Be sure to go inside! It’s really gorgeous.
Captured with the Rodenstock 50mm Digaron lens and about 13mm of vertical shift to maintain the geometry (but several architectural features - setbacks and tapers in the building design - still make it appear to converge toward the top).
Pittsburgh’s 42 story “Cathedral of Learning” houses offices and classrooms for the University of Pittsburgh. Completed in 1937, it took 11 years to construct. It remains the tallest academic building in the US.
The lobby is also gorgeous, and worth a visit.
@[email protected] Really love your photos. Thanks for sharing.
@[email protected] thank you
@[email protected] Curious: was this taken with a large format camera that has a roughly square aspect ratio or was the camera turned to “portrait” mode (is that even a thing with large format cameras) or was it just a regular “landscape” mode photo before being cropped?
@[email protected] it was captured with a medium format view camera. You can rotate the sensor back for either portrait or landscape orientation. (This was further cropped a bit from the original 4:3 sensor aspect ratio)
I can see it from here :)
Ngl, it’s a great shot, but it still doesn’t do the place justice. There’s something about that behemoth of a building that never comes though via photo.
@[email protected] totally. And the interior is amazing.
