Oh yeah, i agree. I remember two similar animes running back then, SAO and Log Horizon and every weeb salivated for SAO and i remember i thought Log Horizon was much better.
Still it could be much worse, remember Hack Sign? Similar topic, but it was THE most boring anime i ever seen, though it also had one of the best soundtracks.

The main point isn’t what he did: he is a standard isekai protagonist, none of his wrong doings are particularly bad. The thing is SAO is a fucking bad story with bad writing and bad everything. Mother’s Basement has a playlist were he dismantles every bad aspect of SAO.
