Entertainment@beehaw.org•Jimmy Kimmel Pulled “Indefinitely” By ABC After Over Charlie Kirk Comments
19·3 months agoI know the answer is obvious, but, why can’t people who don’t like what Kimmel said just stop watching his show? Why does it have to be completely pulled?
From the AP news article about this: Kimmel’s comments about Kirk’s death “are offensive and insensitive at a critical time in our national political discourse,” said Andrew Alford, president of Nexstar’s broadcasting division.
Has this man never seen a standup comedian in his life?

Thanks for the nicely written summary. Sounds like an interesting project. I haven’t written any Scheme in a long time, although I’ve worked with R a lot (which is actually kind of lisp-y internally anyway). I messed around with Clojure in the past, but I didn’t use it for anything serious. I think it’s cool when older programming languages get revised and refreshed.
Frieren is so good even though it makes me feel feelings.

Gaming@beehaw.org•What's your favourite it's all in the gameplay game?
3·1 year agoI’ve had success doing that too. Buttload of traps. The raids that will circumvent your traps are definitely a problem though. Also the raids that just have a bunch of grenadiers can destroy your defenses in no time.

7·1 year agoRimworld definitely makes it harder when you’re doing well. You can control the parameters a bit though in the storyteller settings. It depends on your colony’s wealth, number of people, how long it’s been since something ‘bad’ happens (colonist dies or gets injured), etc.

Politics@beehaw.org•Speaker Johnson announces policy barring trans women from Capitol bathrooms
22·1 year agoMike Johnson recently said that his world view is the same as what’s in the Bible. I hope one day he realizes with horror that he’s been a very hateful person, and that even the Bible he says he follows would condemn this kind of cruelty. He and the Republicans think they’re doing “God’s work”, but they’re not. At all.
I’ve been trying to put myself in the shoes of someone who voted for the orange man. It seems like inflation was the biggest factor for a lot of people. I guess I can understand that when it’s hard to afford groceries anymore, the correlation equals causation argument that Trump pushed becomes more alluring. Biden/Harris were in charge when inflation happened. Would it have been much worse with Trump in power? I think so, but maybe a lot of people are just thinking that a change was needed, enough to ignore literally everything else about Trump. I dunno, but I refuse to believe that most people who voted for Trump are fascist or racist or bigots or misogynist. Just trying to stay hopeful.
Outer Wilds and the DLC are such amazing games. Highly recommended. The DLC does get kinda spooky sometimes.

This game is really fun. I’m impressed by the efficiency of the programming as well. Even in survive mode at the end of a level, getting attacked by probably thousands of monsters constantly, there was no hint of a slowdown on my modest gaming computer running Linux.
