Dude I’m a devops engineer and I totally get it when an app in my cluster goes down and customers start to freakout. However, I get paid to deal with it. Whereas you are doing this as I imagine as a side fun thing. You have ran this entire thing super professional since the beginning. You are doing great. If it was an istio thing that caused your containers to not talk… Believe me when I tell you that is my hell (that I’m currently experience now with one particular app). I think maybe back then we all knew it was going to become a corporate ad-ridden tracking nightmare in some capacity. That is why we remember it so fondly perhaps. Places like lemmy/wikis and the odd ole phpbb forum still running still give off at least a bit of the old internet vibe.

Welcome! I came over during the api shutdown, I mained lemmy for a year, waffled back and forth the last few months. Reddit is such garbage, I dont even recognize it anymore. Its just those few niche subs that got me back but its not worth it.

It sucks that this is where we are. America once the defeaters of Nazi’s. Now appointing billionare Nazi’s with influence to government positions. Fuck man.

Windows, overall just has less time/energy to keep things playing smoothly. Running a good debloat helps some. Honestly, what through me over the edge was with poe2, on linux it just stuttered and lagged. I even went from POP_OS to Fedora, same issues. Came over to windows and it runs nice and smooth. Its just I’ve went through situations like that enough to say thats enough… I can’t keep doing this.

Yep, its just a numbers game. We don’t have enough for all the niche communities but we have a lot of major ones already here which is nice and I like the more tech centric feeling lemmy has too.

I dont even recognize it anymore. I was on reddit for over a decade before the api fiasco. I am there for a few subs that just dont exist here and I cannot stand reddit. The only way I can even stand it for my few subs is with a Revanced Patched app that removes the ads.

Thanks for that, that does help put things in perspective. However, I am not pleased to see proton taking political stances at all. Money corrupts and it seems they are following whats best in their interests that doesn’t always reflect the users (ours) so. This is a space I’m gonna have to follow. The minute they start doing any sort of data sharing, data “personalization”, ad integration, etc. That’s when I’ll be moving.

I have used linux for about two years for gaming and it works for well most games but there is always a game that doesn’t work right too, not to dissuade you from giving it a try. Just want to tell you my experience. I’d say 95% of games I’ve tried work in a basic sense. But sometimes a certain game just runs like crap or I have to fiddle getting a game to work with using lutris . Some games just can’t work because of anti-cheat services. Etc… I’ve tried various OS and really enjoy POP_OS as well as good ole fedora. So, dual boot is recommended if you can do it. Ultimately, I’ve sadly moved back to windows just because I got tired of always having to troubleshoot stuff to the point of not wanting my computer to be a hobby. I love linux and want it to be my only OS but for me its just not quite there for no fuss gaming setup. I’m a parent and dont want my fleeting moments of free time to be troubleshooting while something isn’t working.

God damn it, I just got fully in to proton, took me a year or so to slowly switch everything over, the new proton services like the drive, docs and wallet are pretty sweet. ugh. Gonna have to watch proton closely.

I just can’t use uber eats. It just feels weird. Like, I am fully capable of getting food myself, I know uber eats, doordash etc, pays shit, delivery folks have to wait at the restaurant if its not ready and then fix it if its not. Get my drink from the fountain if I ordered one. And then, drive all the way to my place. I then receive a cold, tossed meal. It’s just depressing all around. I don’t get it.

I’ll pay for delivery of pizza or even something like jimmy johns who have delivery drivers, but having a third party involved just feels wrong.
