26·15 hours agoI think polite words are fine, but when she started praising him, that was simply inappropriate. Either she actually believes what she said or she was lying about the praise. Offering condolences to the family alone would have sufficed.

542·1 day agoIt’s fascinating to see her keep saying things that reveal the fatal flaw in her campaign. It’s not that she listened to her advisors back then, although they did give her bad advice. Rather, she’s lacking values that resonate with the majority of the American people. We all know that the old man was a terrible human being, and yeah, it is probably sad for his family that he passed away, but most of us would simply not say his name again. He earned no respect as a public figure, and we can treat ourselves with dignity by not bringing him up ever again.
Of course you also might want a trash talk him, because of all the horrible things he did, and that’s okay too. I think either approach is fine, but the one approach that’s not fine is whitewashing all the horrible things he did in his life.

213·2 days agoWe hear b******* about how if New York raises taxes then some rich people are going to leave and that’s supposed to hurt the city somehow. I don’t understand that argument but people are making it and let’s assume that they have some basis in reasoning to do so.
Except now he’s going to make it more expensive for them to go to Texas. So they’re more likely to stay in New York even if they’re surrounded by socialists. Is that what he really wants to do? Because I think New Yorkers would like that, because then they can tax those rich m************.

World News@lemmy.world•Americans ‘dumbfounded by cruelty’ of Trump officials slashing Snap benefits | US politics | The GuardianEnglish
5·2 days agoI don’t believe anyone is actually dumbfounded by the cruelty. We’ve all heard the rhetoric, we all watched the speeches, the cruelty was there plain to see. Of course, some people didn’t think it would ever come for them, that they weren’t on the s*** list, but there was never any question about the cruelty itself.

5·3 days agoTo a fascist, hypocrisy is a virtue. Of course Trump admitted that he didn’t now or care about the guy’s shady actions. That’s the entire point. Nobody will bribe him if he doesn’t admit that he can be bribed.

2·4 days agoOr maybe this bubble is no different from past tech improvements: mostly small changes over time, occasional big steps, certainly not linear or predictable. In other words, even if most of what you wrote is true, the bubble itself is still a complete failure.

politics @lemmy.world•Trump Administration Must Make Food Stamp Payments Within Days, Judge Says
30·5 days agoThe GOP is still badly lying about this. Even if last week they actually believed they couldn’t spend that cash (ha!) the judges already said they must. So, the judges solved their problem, and now they can spend it. Right? Right?
If they simply start payments, problem solved. Or they could ignore the court orders and file appeals, which they would only do if the goal is to starve people. Only lunatics and mass murderers would want to do that… And that is the real story, but the Times won’t describe it honestly.
The internet is probably much older than you believe … by several decades … so your question does not exactly fit with your worries.

22·5 days agoThat’s an interesting hypothesis. Let’s roll with it. You’re suggesting that people are cooking the books to make it look like they’re arresting people who don’t actually exist, so that they can get bonuses, knowing that the obvious implication is that the people they arrested are secretly being deported or killed. Is that what you’re hypothesizing they are doing?
Of course, it’s theoretically possible. One could try to do that. But most people wouldn’t want to make themselves look like mass murderers, like Nazis. Unless they actually are Nazis, but then they would just do the bad actions instead of faking them.
Gatsby turned out all right in the end, but I don’t think the same will be said of Mr. Orange.

I think if you tried it you’d find out that you’re wrong. The stubble is not a major issue … is what you might realize.
